In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Flavor of 28 DRINKS GINGER ALE

Many domestically produced Japanese energy drinks tend to add ginger and other spices, making them unnecessarily spicy. So, I honestly didn’t have high expectations when I saw that even 28 DRINKS had a ginger ale.

However, when I took a sip with that preconception in mind, I was pleasantly surprised—the ginger was only present as a light aroma, and the flavor was mild and gently sweet (●´ω`●).

Additionally, it had an ultra-light carbonation, barely noticeable. If the carbonation were stronger, it might have added a bit of sharpness, but 28 DRINKS GINGER ALE was crafted as a smooth, sweet ginger ale with absolutely no spiciness.

The sweetness feels slightly rich at first, but the aftertaste is light and fades quickly, giving it an overall smooth impression. It’s somewhat similar to lightly flavored mineral water in terms of the finish. At the very end, there’s just a hint of ginger aroma lingering in the nose, which complements the sweet and refreshing taste without being overpowering (*´ェ`*).

Many brands offer ginger ale, but if you prefer a sweet and mild version with minimal bite, this one might become your favorite.

Elegant and Bright Can Design

At first, I hesitated, thinking, "It's ginger, so it might be too much for me." But despite its solid flavor, it wasn’t overpowering, and the aftertaste was clean, which I really appreciated. If they had gone for a strong, intense take just because it's from an energy drink brand, it would have completely missed the mark.

I love drinks—energy drinks included—that have a well-defined taste and aroma but don't interfere with conversations or light snacks. Personally, I rate this one very highly.
