In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Flavor of Energy Hunter Sugar Free

When I opened the can, I was immediately hit with a strong chemical smell, but once I poured it into a glass, the scent mellowed, and I could smell a white grape-like fragrance.

The color of the drink is the same bright champagne color as the original.

When I tasted it, the white grape flavor hit with a rich sweetness and a tangy accent, and the aroma was strong, giving a satisfying taste.

This drink is quite rich, so if you're someone who generally prefers a lighter sweetness from sugar-free products, this may not be for you.

As for the artificial sweetener, it was very subtle, especially hidden by the rich sweetness and aroma.

That being said, I’m sensitive to the taste of artificial sweeteners, and I could still catch a faint hint of it, but it was within an acceptable range. It’s not without the "zero" feeling, but it’s a thick and satisfying sugar-free drink.

One point I found a bit of a letdown was a slight chemical taste, which I thought was a bit unnecessary. Generally, the medicinal-like flavor might make some feel like it’s more effective. Since Energy Hunter seems to target a broader general audience rather than just hardcore energy drink fans, this might be understandable, but I couldn't help but notice the chemical smell every time I drank it.

Energy Hunter Sugar Free Energy Ingredients

It contains 195mg of caffeine and 600mg of arginine. The caffeine content is among the highest in Japanese energy drinks and is the same as the original.

The ingredients list also includes ginseng, though the exact amount is unclear.

The label on the top of the can shows "Calorie Off" and "Sugar Free," which comes from the sugar-free aspect.

I think that when they expand the series in the future, it would be nice to list the product's features and ingredients here, making it feel more like a true energy drink.

Energy Hunter Sugar Free Design

Energy Hunter Sugar Free
The design is the same as the first one, but with a bright blue color and the word SUGARFREE clearly marked. I think it looks well put together. The simple design allows for any flavor to be released in the future, with added colors and patterns.

On the flip side, it doesn’t feel particularly unique at the moment (which is typical for private brand products), so I hope they continue to expand with new flavors. As the series grows, the colorful display will make shopping more fun.

The cap is also blue. With bottle cans and PET bottles, the flexibility in cap color and logo design makes it look good when the series is expanded. Many cans in Japan have dull silver tabs, which is a bit unexciting. Personally, I think the 300ml bottle cans are a great idea.

Looking Forward to the Expansion of the Energy Hunter Series

As I mentioned at the end of my review of the original version, the simple design makes it easy to create a series, and I’m looking forward to future expansions.

If they release other flavors in limited quantities rather than making them regulars, it could raise the awareness of Aeon’s private brand energy drinks. If they release energy drinks based on popular flavors from the beverages sold at Aeon stores nationwide, I think it would be quite well-received!

When the product first launched, the shelves were packed with Energy Hunter Sugar Free.

They were stacked so high that I couldn't resist taking a picture (*´艸`*)

It’s amazing that they can do this every time they release a new product.
