AriZona Green Tea ENERGY DRINK
This is a review of the classic AriZona Green Tea ENERGY DRINK, which was released in 2006 and has since been discontinued.
Despite being green tea, it has a mysteriously slight carbonation, which is confusing, and it’s been over 10 years since its production. I decided to try the AriZona Green Tea ENERGY DRINK. It’s generally categorized as an unpalatable drink LOL.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of AriZona Green Tea ENERGY DRINK
The moment I opened it, a sweet and sour apricot-like aroma, typical of deteriorated fruit juice, filled the air. Since it's slightly carbonated, the smell bursts out when you open the can.
I thought, "This is a little different..." and as I poured it into a glass, the color that came out was not what I expected from the green tea I imagined (-_-;)
It looks cloudy with a reddish-brown tint, but in reality, it's not that intense of a brown. It might be similar to iced tea that’s brewed a little stronger.
Now, let's give it a try. The taste is not green tea... (;´∀`), instead, it’s a fruity tea flavor with a strong taste, and there's a sourness similar to deteriorated fruit juice, like apricot. The carbonation doesn’t feel as strong as when it burst out upon opening. This fruity punch is probably due to the deterioration, which intensified the flavor compared to when it was fresh, but it's definitely not green tea.
Today, you can find green tea and matcha everywhere, but calling this green tea would probably get me scolded (^_^;)
It was surprising that, even though it doesn’t contain fruit juice, the deterioration caused it to have similar flavors and smells to fruit juice-based drinks. While the fruit juice might contribute, the deterioration of fruit flavorings may also play a part.
There are some fine sediments, likely from the tea leaves. But compared to Monster's Rehab series, it’s still relatively less.
Energy Ingredients of AriZona Green Tea ENERGY DRINK
With 200mg of caffeine, 2000mg of taurine, 200mg of ginseng, 200mg of inositol, 200mg of guarana, 200mg of glucuronolactone, and 70mg of milk thistle, this is the AriZona blend.
All City had such an impact that this one seems more modest, but in fact, the energy ingredients are more than those in a typical 16oz energy drink.
I always imagined tea-based energy drinks had less sugar and were sweetened with artificial sweeteners, but this AriZona Green Tea uses a generous 52g of sugar, which makes it feel far from green tea (laughs).
Design of AriZona Green Tea ENERGY DRINK
Since it's green tea, the can features designs of Mount Fuji and a Japanese garden, all on a black background with gold. The words "活力緑茶" (Vigor Green Tea) on the front are directly translated, so they’re not wrong, but for Japanese people, it feels a little off (laughs).
Recently, energy drinks have steered away from such imagery, but in the past, there were quite a few that played with unique designs. Looking at this now, I wonder if it was a product from that era’s trends and an attempt to differentiate itself from other energy drinks, which is quite interesting.
This bold American logo design on the can is something that’s disappeared in recent years from energy drinks. I really like this kind of design (●´ω`●). After this, not only AriZona but all brands started simplifying their designs, and the American flag eventually disappeared.
Why AriZona Green Tea ENERGY DRINK Had Such a Surprisingly Long Sales Run
In fact, the AriZona Green Tea ENERGY DRINK was a long-seller, remaining in production for over 4 years after its release. With this taste, green tea... and with carbonation too (^_^;) It’s a mystery how it was kept on the market, but maybe people who didn’t have preconceived notions about green tea enjoyed its refreshing aftertaste and aroma!?
Hmm, for me, I don’t think a carbonated fruit tea is the way to go (^_^;) If it had a more refreshing, stronger carbonation with a more straightforward black tea flavor, it might have turned out differently.
