Awarise Yuzu Sudachi

Posted on March 17, 2024 | Last updated January 29, 2025

Awarise Yuzu Sudachi
Awarise has been revamped, and the combination (or perhaps unification) of the past "Awarise Yuzu" and "Awarise Sudachi" seems to have resulted in the new "Awarise Yuzu Sudachi" that I will be reviewing today. With the discontinuation of "Awarise Zero," Awarise Yuzu Sudachi is now the only product left, marking what seems to be a simplification of their product lineup.

One of the pioneering brands of local energy drinks that boasts top-tier deliciousness in Japan, Awarise Yuzu Sudachi, will be reviewed in detail here.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Flavor of Awarise Yuzu Sudachi

Upon opening, the fragrance of citrus fruits such as lemon and sudachi bursts out. The color is slightly cloudy, with a deep golden hue that shines. Let's take a sip.
Flavor of Awarise Yuzu Sudachi
As soon as it touches my lips, a sweet and sour blend of lemon, yuzu, sudachi, and lime citrus flavors spreads across my tongue. The fresh taste of fruit flesh and a refreshing aroma quickly fade—it's absolutely exquisite.

The juice content is only 1% from yuzu and sudachi, but the fruit flavor and fragrance are so prominent that it feels as though much more juice has been included.

The burst of freshness when I first drink it, the citrusy remnants left in my mouth, and the surprisingly clean finish with a well-balanced aroma all contribute to an ideal drinkability.

In general, having a stronger flavor and aroma isn't always better. The Awarise series has always managed to strike a perfect balance between richness and aftertaste. This addictive deliciousness, which makes me want to take another sip right after finishing, with the authentic citrus taste, is characteristic of the Awarise series, and this latest version carries that legacy forward.

Energy Ingredients of Awarise Yuzu Sudachi

Energy Ingredients of Awarise Yuzu Sudachi
It contains 80mg of caffeine and 300mg of arginine.

The juice content is 1%, with both yuzu and sudachi included. Despite the small amount, it manages to replicate the citrusy flavor so effectively, which is quite impressive.

The design features a mirror-finish silver can with a blue "AwaRise" logo and illustrations of the Awa Odori dancers, continuing the concept from previous versions of Awarise.

The blue "AwaRise" logo has had its font changed, and it is now placed vertically in a larger size.

The illustration of the Awa Odori dancers has been redrawn to fit this new version, while still depicting the same two dancers as before.

The can also includes the text "Awa Odori Special," reflecting a previous shift from being specifically tied to Awa Odori to now promoting an "energy drink special for festivals" in general for all Japanese festivals. We had heard that various expansions were in the works.

However, no new products were released, and I had been wondering what was happening, only to find that the "Awa Odori Special Energy Drink" label has returned in this new version.

In the past, Awarise could occasionally be found in Tokyo, but it has become rare to see it now. Currently, there are shops on Rakuten that sell it, so buying from there might be your best bet. Be sure to try Awarise, one of Japan's top-class delicious energy drinks.
