In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of Awarise Zero
As soon as I opened the can, a rich and tangy yuzu aroma burst out. Since it's a zero-calorie, zero-sugar drink, I expected a light, sparkling water-like flavor, but instead, it delivered Awarise’s signature freshly squeezed richness... This is impressive! (*´艸`*)
When poured into a glass, the liquid appears cloudy, just like its aroma, reinforcing that freshly squeezed feel. The color may seem a bit subdued, but I personally love how it visually enhances the fruity depth.
Now for the taste test. My first impression is that it delivers a flavor nearly identical to the original Awarise. The rich yuzu aroma is accompanied by a well-balanced blend of sweetness, acidity, and the slight bitterness of yuzu peel, creating a complex and natural fruitiness. It’s remarkable how it preserves the essence of yuzu juice and Awarise’s signature sugared blend despite being a zero-calorie, zero-sugar drink. For a moment, I almost forgot it was a "zero-zero" beverage!
The aftertaste is clean, with the aroma, sweetness, and fruitiness dissipating smoothly, leaving no lingering residue in the mouth. This might be a distinctive trait of zero-calorie, zero-sugar drinks.
Many intensely flavored drinks rely on strong aromas to mask a weaker taste, but Awarise Zero is genuinely bold in both scent and flavor. It reminds me of Monster Energy’s Absolutely Zero—achieving a deep, full-bodied taste without compromising the original experience. The fact that it retains such a strong fruity essence despite being zero-zero is truly impressive.
Energy Ingredients of Awarise Zero
It contains 80mg of caffeine, 300mg of arginine, and 1% yuzu juice. But the flavor certainly doesn't feel like just 1% juice! (*´艸`*)
Even in its zero-zero state, Awarise Zero retains the same fruit-forward essence as the original. Whether at room temperature or chilled, it maintains a well-balanced taste, which is quite surprising.
Design of Awarise Zero
A bold yellow logo with a vibrant yuzu illustration. While the original Awarise is best known for its refreshing blue, this yellow design effectively highlights the fruity theme. With blue, green, and now yellow in the lineup, I’m excited to see even more flavor expansions in the future.
The "Zero Sugar, Zero Calorie" label stands out in red, just like the "Matsuri" edition, making it easy to distinguish. As the brand expands its lineup with both regular and zero-zero versions, it’s starting to feel more like a true energy drink brand. When I first heard about Awarise Zero, I couldn’t help but grin—finally, the zero version has arrived! (´∀`)w
No longer just for Awa Odori—this drink is now a festival-ready energy boost. I had heard that Awarise aimed to be enjoyed in a variety of settings beyond the Awa Odori festival, and I hope to see it continue spreading further. (u_u*)
It features a silver tab. As the Awarise series becomes more colorful, my desire for colored tabs is growing too!
Before tasting it, I was curious how they would make a zero-zero version with a satisfying yuzu flavor. But I was pleasantly surprised—this drink delivers a refreshing and satisfying taste without any awkwardness. Σ(´∀`;)
Awarise Zero, released just in time for summer, is best enjoyed ice-cold with plenty of ice cubes. ((o(´∀`)o))
