Went to the Atsugi Base American Festival
The third U.S. military base open house in 2016 was at Atsugi Base! Despite the bad weather making it difficult to hold the event, the Bon Odori was canceled, but the American Festival was still held.
Author: Energy Drink-kun
In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Almost Empty Base Open House Due to Bad Weather
I arrived at Atsugi Base a little later than planned, but due to the heavy rain, the number of visitors was quite low, and I was able to enter after waiting only about 10 minutes.
As I moved deeper into Atsugi Base, I found three separate tents (and they were quite far apart!). I started by checking each tent to find the USO. After walking around, I found that the USO was only available at the NEX.
However, the price was... 350 yen per can, which felt quite expensive. Other tents were selling Monster and Rockstar for about 250 yen, so I even made a second round to check if there might be a USO tent elsewhere.
At least I was able to secure a case ((o(´∀`)o))
Aside from the NEX, Rockstar seemed to be fairly well-stocked. However, I didn’t plan to buy anything other than USO at this event, so I skipped the rest.
Given the weather, there were very few people around, so it was easy to walk around and buy energy drinks quickly (●´ω`●). If there had been many people buying energy drinks, I would have stood out for buying USO like that… In the end, I felt like the weather was on my side for this shopping trip.
After walking around the tents twice, the best part was the lawn. The NEX had its booth on the road, but many other booths were on the grass, which felt relaxing. If it hadn’t been raining, I could have bought an energy drink and some food and just chilled on the lawn (´・ω・`).
The Atsugi Base Food Court is Amazing!
As I wandered around Atsugi Base, I came across the food court! Since the distance from the station to the base was quite far and I was feeling pretty tired, I decided to take a break at the food court before heading back.
Although the tables were full, it didn’t seem too crowded, and the air conditioning was blasting, making it very comfortable! The humidity after the heavy rain seemed like a distant memory. It was paradise.
This time, I decided to grab Taco Bell! It had been since May in Guam. I had a burrito and drank Mountain Dew to relax ε-(´∀`*)ホッ
If I hadn’t had the USO, I would have stayed a little longer, but since I didn’t have a cart, carrying 24 cans was pretty heavy, and I didn’t want to stick around too long in case the rain started again. So, I charged up with calories at the food court and walked back to the station (^_^;)
This year, I participated in U.S. military base open houses at three locations: Zama, Yokosuka, and Atsugi! Thanks to the USO, I was able to see a bit of what’s inside different bases, and it was a great experience.
It’s nice that every base has a relaxing lawn. I hope to be escorted one day and stay there leisurely (*ノω・*)
