Yokosuka Friendship Day 2017
I went to the Yokosuka Friendship Day again this year, just like last year! Last time, I lined up before the opening for the USO, but the summer base opening is truly unbearable in terms of both temperature and humidity. There’s not much shade on the path, and the grounds are vast, so I think there were people who collapsed from heatstroke. I even saw an ambulance in action.
So, this time, I decided to avoid lining up before the opening and the scramble in front of the shops. Instead, I went leisurely in the afternoon (●´ω`●)
Author: Energy Drink-kun
In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
It was, of course, scorching hot in the afternoon as well
I knew it, but... it was still scorching hot.
By the time I reached Mikasa Park, I couldn’t stop sweating (^_^;)
I arrived around 3 pm, so naturally, there was no line at Mikasa Park. I was able to walk up to the security check point without much trouble. There was a small line at the entrance due to the security checks, but this is to be expected. However, it was still hot (ヽ´ω`)
I finally managed to get into Yokosuka Base, but there was very little shade, so it was really tough. I walked under the little shade from the trees.
NEX Only Had Red Bull Left
By the time I reached NEX... there were no energy drinks left except Red Bull! I had seen various drinks available in the morning tweets, but it seems that many people were buying several bottles early in the day. When the stock runs low, they sometimes replenish the shelves, but I was told there would be no restocking this time. If you want a variety of energy drinks, you might have to line up and enter right when it opens.
Since I didn’t come to buy energy drinks this time, it wasn’t an issue for me, but I can imagine it must have been disappointing for those who were looking forward to it. They had no choice but to choose from a small selection at other stalls (´・ω・`)
It seems like Zama has purchase limits, so if that becomes the case everywhere, the mad scramble right after opening might disappear, and people could have a chance to buy more leisurely. Lately, the situation at the base stalls has made some people not want to go (I’m one of them too), and it seems that cart people aren’t well-liked by the military crowd. Personally, I tend to agree with the purchase limits.
So, this time, I checked out some of the tent stalls outside of NEX. The tent areas were scattered in various locations, so the heat was getting to me (-_-;)
Most of the stalls had Monster, Rockstar, and similar products.
I was at a certain tent when I was told I could get 2 bottles for 500 yen, so I ended up buying the newly found SKU’s Ultra Blue and Ultra Sunrise. At 250 yen per bottle, it’s a reasonable price. I was able to save the cost of 2 bottles for my upcoming Detroit trip ( ´∀`)bグッ!
I later learned that in the late hours, they sometimes sell unsold items at discounted prices, so if you want to leisurely shop and still get a chance to buy American energy drinks at a cheaper price, it might be better to enter in the afternoon.
Unfortunately, there were fewer energy drinks this time, but I had plenty of other finds, so if I get another chance to visit the base, I think I’ll try coming in the late afternoon again (●´ω`●)
