Went to the 2022 Yokota Air Base Sakura Spring Festival

Went to the 2022 Yokota Air Base Sakura Spring Festival
I attended the Sakura Spring Festival at Yokota Air Base, one of the US military base open events, which was held for the first time in two years.

It was amazing to see such long lines at each tent since it was the first time in a while that I could buy American energy drinks domestically!

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Long Lines Everywhere at Yokota Air Base After a Long Time

The event opened at 11 a.m. By the time I arrived just before opening, there was already a long line. The line stretched so far that I couldn’t even see the entrance.

I thought it might take quite some time, but the security check was relatively smooth, and people were getting in quickly.

It was the "Sakura Spring Festival," but unfortunately, the cherry blossoms hadn’t bloomed yet.

Now, let’s head straight to the energy drink section.

Wow, the selection is colorful. I’ve already decided what to buy!

Most people were lining up to buy energy drinks. Since each person could only buy one or two drinks at a time, it took quite a while. There was even a girl buying around 10,000 yen worth, and both the price and weight made the staff worry a bit, which made me laugh (^_^;)

One person tried to order 20 cans of a single flavor, but was gently told, "That’s too much. How about 10 cans?" There wasn’t a clear purchase limit, but it seemed they were asking for common sense. It seems there are many reasons why the sellers would want to place such limits to avoid stock running out.

Finally, I made it to the ordering part. There weren’t many new releases available.

And here are the three cans I bought this time. Monster Energy was 300 yen per can, which feels cheap considering the recent exchange rate of over 120 yen to the dollar.

There was also a tent selling Bang, so I lined up there as well. As time passed after the opening, the line kept getting longer...

I bought 5 cans of Bang. In the past two years, I couldn’t go to the U.S., so it was great to finally get some of the updated Bang products. I think they were 400 or 500 yen per can.

Although I’m not the type to buy in bulk at the base, this was a decent amount for me since it’s light to carry and just the right amount for me to consume alone.

When I was walking around, I overheard some people talking about the strong impression that "Base = Energy Drinks = Bulk Buying = Reselling," so I thought it would be nice to show that not everyone buys in bulk, even if they are really into energy drinks.
