BIG SHOCK BRASIL

Posted on August 8, 2021 | Last updated February 4, 2025

BIG SHOCK BRASIL
Released in 2016 during the Rio Olympics, this limited-edition product from Czech’s top brand BIG SHOCK is called "Brasil."

The flavor is a blend of banana and kiwi, which won the fan vote. Personally, I’d prefer enjoying them separately instead of blended... (^_^;)

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Exotic Fruit Mix of Bitter Orange and Kiwi Flavor

Though the flavor is said to be a blend of banana and kiwi, the scent gives off a citrus fruit aroma. Hmm...!? The dull green color, resembling green tea, might be an attempt to represent kiwi flesh? Let's give it a try!

BIG SHOCK BRASIL

Upon tasting, there’s a bitter orange-like flavor with a tangy kiwi essence, making for an exotic fruit-like profile. The bitter orange flavor doesn’t quite match the color, which can be a bit confusing at first. Each sip leaves me wondering what exactly I’m drinking.

The kiwi flavor is subtle—just a hint that could be identified as kiwi—but it’s mostly mixed with bitter orange, passion fruit, and grapefruit. Banana flavor is almost non-existent. If the banana scent had been more prominent, it might have helped tie it all together, but in this case, it feels a bit forced.

BIG SHOCK ENERGY BRASIL

On the other hand, if you disregard the banana and kiwi, the drink is actually quite delicious with a refreshing, fruity taste that is enjoyable. Despite being 500ml, it's easy to finish quickly thanks to its fruity essence, bitter refreshing flavor, pleasant tangy aftertaste, and complex aromas. The flavor name might have been unnecessary, as simply calling it "BIG SHOCK BRASIL" would have sufficed.

By the way, exotic fruit flavors are common in European energy drinks, so if you spot one during your travels, be sure to try it!

BIG SHOCK BRASIL's Energy Ingredients

BIG SHOCK ENERGY BRASIL

It contains 160mg of caffeine and 2000mg of taurine, along with 10% fruit juice from apple, orange, banana, and kiwi. Wait, banana’s in there!? Σ(´∀`;)

BIG SHOCK BRASIL's Design

The design is in Brazil's yellow and green colors, giving it a unique limited edition feel compared to the usual yellow BIG SHOCK cans.

The silhouette evokes the spirit of Rio de Janeiro.

On the opposite side, there’s a photo or stamp of Copacabana Beach in Brazil. It’s quite an intricate design. The green BIG SHOCK can stands out, and it seems to have sold very well in Czech.

So, BIG SHOCK BRASIL was re-released in 2017!

BIG SHOCK ENERGY BRASIL

Here’s the 2017 version, which I’ve reviewed. The 2016 version is on the left, and the right shows the redesigned logo for all BIG SHOCK products.

The 2017 design really captures Brazil’s exotic vibe, and its impact on store shelves must have been huge. The flavor, with fruit juice, was exceptional, making BIG SHOCK BRASIL an energy drink that deserved its popularity. However, despite the potential for becoming a regular product, it ended as a limited edition.
