Released in April 2024, here is my review of BIG SHOCK ICE TEA GREEN TEA PEAR, part of the first-ever tea series from the BIG SHOCK lineup.

Strictly speaking, the BIG SHOCK ICE TEA series is a pure fruit tea series without energy ingredients. However, since it’s a new product from the long-established BIG SHOCK brand, I’ve decided to review it.

The BIG SHOCK series debuted with three flavors, available in two sizes: a 330 ml can and a 1L family-sized PET bottle. I picked this up during a trip to the Czech Republic in the summer of 2024. I visited numerous stores and supermarkets, and it seemed like the PET bottle version was being more actively promoted than the cans, as I hardly came across the 330 ml cans. I’ll also share some observations about the local situation at the end of this review.

Upon opening, a sweet and rich banana-like aroma emerges. While the flavor is supposed to be pear, it doesn’t quite align with the refreshing and floral scent typically associated with pears. Let’s give it a taste.

When sipped, a juicy apple-like sweetness and the refreshing flavor of pear spread across the palate, followed by the subtle aroma of tea leaves lingering in the nose.

The pear flavor itself feels somewhat underwhelming, leaning more towards apple in taste.

This combination of pear and green tea differs from the green tea one might imagine in Japan. Instead, it has a more subdued and refreshing black tea-like quality. The drink contains 0.12% green tea extract, but how much it contributes to the flavor is unclear.

Compared to typical fruit tea flavors, the presence of tea leaves is much milder.

Unlike fruit tea energy drinks from other brands, the BIG SHOCK ICE TEA series contains a significant amount of sugar. While this might reduce its refreshing quality, the sugar gives it a taste reminiscent of apple pulp, adding a sense of fullness and satisfaction. This makes it a divisive choice depending on one’s preference for fruit teas.

The BIG SHOCK ICE TEA series does not include energy-boosting ingredients. While there may be some caffeine from the tea leaves used, the product does not specify the amount of caffeine present.

The drink contains 4.9% apple juice and 0.1% pear juice.

The BIG SHOCK ICE TEA Series in the Czech Republic

I purchased BIG SHOCK ICE TEA GREEN TEA PEAR during a trip to the Czech Republic in the summer of 2024.

While three flavors were released simultaneously as part of the BIG SHOCK ICE TEA series, I only saw two of them available in stores.

In general, the 330 ml cans of the BIG SHOCK ICE TEA series were rarely seen on shelves. It felt like the 1L PET bottles were the main focus, with cans being much less prevalent.

The price of the 1L PET bottle was so low that it made purchasing the 330 ml can seem impractical. I can see why stores might not bother stocking the cans.

The intended use for the BIG SHOCK ICE TEA series seems more geared toward casual hydration, with consumers gradually drinking from the PET bottle as a daily fruit tea, rather than consuming it in the same manner as energy drinks.

I hope the BIG SHOCK ICE TEA series continues to be produced until my next trip to the Czech Republic. I plan to pick up the third flavor I missed this time on my next visit.
