Posted on August 8, 2021 | Last updated February 4, 2025

BIG SHOCK SPRITZ
Released in 2017, the limited-edition BIG SHOCK SPRITZ from Czech's top brand BIG SHOCK series. It comes in a unique orange color never seen before, and features two designs – one for men and one for women. I'm curious about what it tastes like!

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Adult-Oriented Flavor with a Campari-like Bitter Alcohol Taste

The aroma is a hard-to-describe mix of sweet and bitter, with no fruity or chemical notes. I wonder what the taste is like!
BIG SHOCK SPRITZ
When you take a sip, it has a bitter taste, and true to the product name, BIG SHOCK SPRITZ feels almost like you're drinking alcohol. The unusual aroma might have been part of this effect.

The bitter orange flavor has a taste similar to Campari, which I personally enjoy. The taste and aroma are both calm, and you could say it doesn’t taste like a typical energy drink.
BIG SHOCK ENERGY SPRITZ
It seems this product was inspired by Italy’s pre-meal drink, the “Spritz,” typically made with Aperol or Campari. After talking to an Italian friend, I realized the taste is similar to the bitter fruit cocktails I’ve had before. I was drinking without knowing the name of the cocktail, but this is it!

BIG SHOCK SPRITZ is not too sweet and lacks a refreshing punch, so it might not be ideal for those expecting a sharp, intense flavor from an energy drink. Honestly, I’m not sure if people buying energy drinks are looking for the somewhat heavy flavor of a cocktail, but that’s just my thought.

That said, I really enjoy the taste. If I had to suggest something, it could have a slightly more bitter flavor and some aromatic variations to make it even richer.

Other similar products in this category include the Austria-exclusive RED BULL WINTER EDITION 2016 Zwetschke-Zimtnelke and Red Bull WINTER EDITION 2018 Rumtopf. In Japan, there aren’t any energy drinks with a similar flavor, so it's hard to imagine what it tastes like…

Energy Ingredients of BIG SHOCK SPRITZ

BIG SHOCK SPRITZ
Contains 160mg of caffeine and 2000mg of taurine, which are typical for European and American energy drinks. Of course, it does not contain alcohol.

Design of BIG SHOCK SPRITZ

BIG SHOCK SPRITZ was released with two different designs for men and women. Both have the same Spritz flavor inside.
BIG SHOCK SPRITZ
Unlike the traditional yellow BIG SHOCK cans, the orange can and its illustration made a strong impact. However, this intense illustration seems far removed from the classic Spritz pre-meal drink image. I’m not sure what message it’s trying to convey Σ(´∀`;)

Personally, I thought it was delicious and expected it to become a regular item, but it was discontinued as planned in 2017. I guess this flavor didn’t resonate with energy drink fans… what a shame.
