In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
BIG SHOCK Watermelon Flavor
When opening the can, there's a sweet, artificial candy-like scent that doesn't immediately scream watermelon. It's more like, "Well, if you say it's watermelon, maybe that's what it is."
When poured into a glass, the reddish tint and cloudiness resemble watermelon itself. You can definitely feel the watermelon vibe from the appearance.
The taste initially confuses me as to whether it’s actually watermelon, but the overall flavor of BIG SHOCK is so delicious that I keep drinking it. In short, it tastes very similar to a watermelon popsicle. But that doesn’t mean it tastes exactly like watermelon...
When I savor it more closely, there’s a refreshing sweetness that, to be honest, I’m not sure is really watermelon, but it’s the dominant flavor. The sweetness is solid and satisfying, but it’s not too rich, and it doesn’t linger, so you can enjoy both the satisfying taste and the refreshing sensation. It’s not overly light or bland, but well-balanced with a high level of flavor.
Regardless of whether it’s truly watermelon or not, it’s incredibly delicious, and I’d love to use this as a benchmark to compare and evaluate other brands' watermelon flavors.
Energy Ingredients of BIG SHOCK Watermelon
Contains 160mg of caffeine, 2000mg of taurine, and 40mg of guarana. Also includes 10% apple juice.
Design of BIG SHOCK Watermelon
In 2015, there was a global watermelon flavor boom across energy drink brands. Among them, BIG SHOCK Watermelon was the first to launch. It was surprising to see even a long-established energy drink brand from the Czech Republic jumping on the watermelon trend.
The design features the common yellow can of the BIG SHOCK series, with a watermelon cut in half placed in a meter-like design. It’s a humorous design typical of BIG SHOCK, and at the time, BIG SHOCK was definitely one of the energy drink brands riding the wave of excitement.
