In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
BLACKOUT ENERGY COLA Flavor
Upon opening the can, a cola gummy-like scent bursts out. It’s been a while since I’ve experienced such a strong carbonation, and the scent spreads immediately.
When poured into a glass, the carbonation bubbles pop aggressively and fly all over the place. The strong and continuous bubbling means if you fill the glass to the brim, it’ll spill over and make a mess. The color is a regular, deep, dark cola shade.
The flavor is a very sour cola flavor. The sweetness is barely noticeable even at room temperature, and the sourness is so overpowering that it has a bit of a strange aftertaste.
It might be easier to understand if I say that you’ll immediately want to add ice after tasting it at room temperature. The sourness lingers all the way to the aftertaste, and the typical cola sweetness is almost non-existent.
The constant sourness makes it quite tough to finish the entire 500ml.
BLACKOUT ENERGY COLA Energy Ingredients
It contains 150mg of caffeine, 605mg of arginine, and more. I wonder if there’s a reason why caffeine is listed in grams!?
It also contains alanine and isoleucine, which could be aimed at energy endurance... but I’m not quite sure. It’s a bit low on quantity. If it were 5-10 times more, it would likely be perfect for people doing intense training. These ingredients are also found in other products, but it would be interesting to market it as coming from a wrestling federation. Honestly, I think they should focus more on this concept rather than the spell-like backprint text, regardless of its effectiveness.
BLACKOUT ENERGY COLA Design
The design is divided vertically with blue and red, and the Blackout logo looks different from before. I actually prefer the previous one.
The back features the familiar, seemingly incomprehensible text. This time, it’s even more nonsensical.
At first, I thought the early Blackout designs resembled texts from various Monster products overseas, but this time it’s completely off the wall and seems entirely unrelated to energy cola in any way, with content that’s hard to understand.
The barcode section has transitioned from wrestlers, bodybuilders, angels, and demons to an egg. I wonder what will hatch from the egg next time.
