In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of BLACKOUT LOVELESS
Upon opening the can, a fresh cassis and lychee scent immediately bursts out. The color of the liquid is similar to pink grapefruit. Wait, haven't I seen this color in a pink can before...? Pipeline Punch!?
When you take a sip, the taste of bitter and tangy pink grapefruit spreads, followed by a refreshing mix of lychee and peach sweetness, creating a fruity blend. Instead of a mixed flavor, you can distinctly taste the separate notes of pink grapefruit, lychee, and peach, which is quite interesting.
There's no strong fruitiness or pulp sensation, and unlike many fruity energy drinks, it doesn't rely on excessive sweetness or intense fragrance to enhance the fruit flavor. If you're expecting a rich fruit-based energy drink, you might be a bit disappointed.
However, the refreshing bitterness of the pink grapefruit and the delicate peach and lychee notes make this a great drink, especially when served over plenty of ice. It’s a perfect flavor for the summer.
Energy Ingredients of BLACKOUT LOVELESS
Contains 165mg of caffeine, 600mg of arginine, 3.5mg of asparagine, 3.5mg of alanine, 3mg of isoleucine, and 100mg of royal jelly.
Interestingly, BLACKOUT LOVELESS has half the sugar content compared to typical 500ml energy drinks, with only 27g of sugar. By not going for a zero-sugar formula, it manages to maintain a satisfying sweetness while offering a refreshing and easy-to-drink flavor.
Design of BLACKOUT LOVELESS
The design features the signature X-shape of the BLACKOUT series, along with the DDT logo and a halo image at the top of the can.
The back of the can contains the usual cryptic poem that has been part of the BLACKOUT series since its launch. For BLACKOUT LOVELESS, the poem is especially mysterious (^_^;) perhaps a poem related to the flavor would have been better.
Near the barcode, there’s an image of an angel. Originally, there were wrestler images, but recently, there have been more depictions of gods and demons, which makes it feel like the brand has moved away from its wrestling roots. Σ(´∀`;)
