Released as a limited-edition Don Quijote energy drink in 2017, Blackout Weiß was part of the Blackout series. Among past Blackout flavors, this was one of my personal favorites.

When poured into a glass, it has a milky white color, just as the name "Weiß" suggests, and a lactic drink aroma fills the air.

Taking a sip, the tangy taste of a lactic drink reminiscent of Calpis Soda stands out. The aftertaste is clean and refreshing, without any lingering heaviness.

The fact that they kept it as a simple, orthodox lactic drink flavor without adding any unnecessary quirks is commendable. Many Japanese energy drinks fail when they try too hard to be unique.

On the other hand, Blackout Weiß has a well-balanced mix of sweetness, acidity, lactic flavor, and aftertaste, making it enjoyable even in a 500ml size. Its natural taste makes it easy to drink first thing in the morning, and I’d say it’s the best Blackout release so far.

Contains 150mg of caffeine, 565mg of arginine, 55mg of aspartic acid, 24mg of alanine, and 36mg of isoleucine. It also includes lactic acid bacteria.

The usual Blackout series "poem" is here again. "The Pure White Knight" seems to reference the drink’s color, but as always, the meaning is unclear, so let's just move on.

The barcode section features a unique design, which is a staple of the Blackout series. This time, it looks like a phoenix emerging from an egg? I thought it might have some connection to the poem, but apparently not.

The blue infinity symbol wrapping around the can gives it a cool look. Previous Blackout cans have all had a black base, but a pure white can matching the drink’s color might have been even more striking! A bright, colorful design would stand out even more on store shelves, especially for a new release.
