In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Tart, Classic Flavor with a Strong Sourness
BOOST Original has the refreshing aroma of a classic flavor, just as expected. It doesn’t seem overly sweet.
Upon tasting, it has a tart, classic flavor with a moderate sweetness. The base flavor is clean, but there is a slight chemical taste and a fragrance reminiscent of perfume that lingers in the aftertaste.
A downside is that when ice is added, the sweetness fades, leaving only a stronger tartness. It’s best enjoyed at a refrigerated temperature.
The flavor and aroma are subtle, which may feel somewhat lacking, but this tartness could be refreshing when you're tired. It seems that there are a decent number of regular drinkers. Otherwise, the brand wouldn't have lasted so long.
BOOST ENERGY ORIGINAL Energy Ingredients
Contains 75mg of caffeine and 1000mg of taurine. Despite being a budget energy drink, it contains solid energy ingredients. While there are various budget energy drink brands in the EU, they never skimp on the ingredients based on price.
BOOST ENERGY ORIGINAL Design
The BOOST logo falls, creating a splash effect in the design.
Due to the low price, the design may appear simple and cheap, but what do you think? (^_^;)
There have been several design renewals, but the overall vibe has always been somewhat uncool, so maybe it's better that it stays this way to maintain the true BOOST series identity.
BOOST Energy is a low-cost energy drink available for just 49p in the UK, but it has run several campaigns. During these campaigns, they release special campaign cans.
One such campaign had a grand prize of a trip to New York (with flights, 4 nights in a hotel, dinners, and nightlife tickets included). Additionally, there were daily 50-pound prizes and weekly wireless speaker giveaways. It's a campaign with a red-inked budget, which you wouldn’t see from Japan's major energy drink brands.
This kind of thing is unimaginable in Japan. Even major brands don’t do this kind of campaign. While big Western brands occasionally do trip campaigns, I always think they’re extravagant when they happen.
BOOST Energy not only offers consumer services and campaigns but also supported local shops in the UK during the extended lockdown. Doesn’t this make the brand even more interesting?
When you visit the UK, avoid the big supermarket or convenience store chains, and instead check out small local shops. You'll find a variety of budget-friendly energy drinks like the BOOST series. The more you discover and understand about them, the more you'll realize that these drinks are much more than just cheap options, and your energy drink experience will become even more enjoyable.
