In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of BOOSTER ABSOLUTE ZERO
BOOSTER's original flavor zero product. The scent is surprisingly weak, with only a slight hint of the classic flavor.
When you take a sip, only the acidity spreads, with no sweetness at all. The overall watery mouthfeel is quite noticeable. Without the sweetness and with the weak scent, it's hard to tell what you're drinking, which might confuse you. It feels like the flavor is exactly what you'd expect if you removed all the sweetness and scent from the classic flavor—just this sour taste.
There’s no sugar, and while artificial sweeteners are used, they’ve completely removed the sweetness. This is quite surprising since most zero products still try to provide some sweetness close to the original taste using artificial sweeteners.
As I mentioned, the mouthfeel is watery, which makes it easy to drink during exercise. However, I wouldn’t normally choose to drink this. That’s because it lacks any kind of umami. Without sweetness and with such a weak scent, it feels like the “deliciousness” is completely lost, and I don’t even know what I’m drinking. I wouldn’t want to drink this again.
Energy Ingredients of BOOSTER ABSOLUTE ZERO
Contains 105.6mg of caffeine, 1320mg of taurine, and guarana. There’s no sugar, and while there are a few calories, it’s not a complete “zero-zero” product, but a sugar-free drink.
Design of BOOSTER ABSOLUTE ZERO
BOOSTER’s original design is blue. The zero product, BOOSTER ABSOLUTE ZERO, has a black base with gold. Even within the cheap-looking burst design, the color scheme gives off a slight sense of luxury.
It’s curious that they chose black as the base color for a zero product, but the original wasn’t always a solid blue either. It used to be a silver can with blue accents.
The original design started with a somewhat sugar-free look, so they might have chosen black as the zero color on purpose.
Black top with a gold tab. Personally, I like this color combination as it gives a sense of luxury.
