BOOSTER CLASSIC
BOOSTER CLASSIC is a budget energy drink from Germany. The design may look simple and tacky, but with its wide range of flavors, it surprisingly looks decent when displayed side by side.
The BOOSTER CLASSIC I reviewed is from 2015, and the product name has since changed to BOOSTER ORIGINAL.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of BOOSTER CLASSIC
The liquid has a lighter, brighter color than the typical yellow of classic energy drinks. True to its name and color, it has a familiar classic energy drink scent, but it's not as strong as the aroma of Red Bull or Monster Energy.
When I take a sip, the sweetness and sourness are mild, and the overall flavor is a light, classic energy drink taste.
It has the signature taste and aroma of classic energy drinks, with a punch that doesn't linger, making it easier to drink than Red Bull, which is similar in flavor.
Although it comes in a 330ml can, it feels like drinking a 250ml can in terms of smoothness. Still, I didn't feel any lack of satisfaction. It's easy to drink without any wateriness or cheap artificial sweetness, and overall, it's stable and enjoyable. At under 100 yen for a 330ml can, it's easy to see why it has been sold for years as a convenient energy drink.
BOOSTER CLASSIC faithfully recreates the classic energy drink flavor that everyone loves, balancing drinkability and satisfaction, all at a low price. While taste and drinkability are important, the low price also stands out when I look at budget brands in Europe.
Energy Ingredients of BOOSTER CLASSIC
It contains 105.6mg of caffeine and 1320mg of taurine. Simple energy ingredients. You don't expect complicated energy ingredients from a low-cost energy drink priced under 100 yen.
More than the ingredients, I like BOOSTER's approach to expanding their series.
Design of BOOSTER CLASSIC
Honestly, the design of the BOOSTER series is a bit weak. Since it's a product priced under 100 yen, maybe they didn't want to spend too much on the design.
The basic design for each flavor is a variation of lines and effects, with simple color differences (limited editions have slightly more elaborate designs).
BOOSTER CLASSIC is typically available in a 330ml can. They also released limited-edition 500ml "XXL" cans, and even 1000ml "KING SIZE" cans. It's like a party size.
A transparent plastic lid is added after opening the pull tab to keep out any debris, which is a nice touch. The 500ml can is simply twice the size of the 330ml, making it larger than the BFC cans of Monster Energy in the U.S. Occasionally, 1L cans are released as limited editions in Europe, adding a sense of fun and increasing the excitement for energy drink enthusiasts.
BOOSTER's main products use vibrant, intense colors for the color tops. The high contrast colors make it easy to spot them among many other stock items.
Although there are many color tabs, not many energy drink brands use color tops, so it stands out nicely on store shelves. It’s even more interesting because it’s a budget energy drink.
History of BOOSTER CLASSIC
The can I opened for this review was made around 2015. BOOSTER CLASSIC has undergone several design changes over the years.
From left to right, the design gradually becomes more modern. It's interesting to see how it shifted from silver to blue.
The tab also evolved from a silver tab to a rich blue tab, and eventually, the whole top turned blue.
Although it may not be a major brand due to its low price, it's fascinating to look at its history.
By the way, these are products from 2010 and 2012. I was lucky to find both in excellent condition in 2020.
While major brands like Monster Energy are often stored away by long-time fans, it’s rare to see something like this from a smaller brand like BOOSTER. I secured these during my trip to Germany.
Despite being a low-cost product with a minor position in the market, it's amazing that BOOSTER has continued to provide a consistent, stable classic flavor for years, both in terms of taste and ingredients.
