In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Flavor of BOOSTER EXOTIC

BOOSTER EXOTIC
Upon opening, a sharp tropical fruit aroma with a hint of bitterness fills the air. Personally, citrusy bitter fruits are one of my favorite flavors.

Upon tasting, the acidity of passion fruit and orange spreads, with a refreshing burst of fruitiness that gives a balanced exotic fruit flavor, blending acidity and bitterness perfectly. The bitter taste makes it a great option for those who prefer adult flavors.

Since it's not a high juice content drink, it doesn't leave a heavy aftertaste and has a clear mouthfeel. The aftertaste leaves a combination of acidity, bitterness, and fragrance, offering a well-rounded and premium taste without any cheapness. All of this for around 70 yen.

For a price around 70 yen, I imagine it gives people the ability to easily recharge when they’re feeling tired. I remember seeing a woman in a European supermarket drinking a budget energy drink of the same price after finishing her checkout. It has a typical bitter tropical fruit flavor without any artificial chemical aftertaste, so I think it would appeal to many. At 330ml for 70 yen, Germany seems pretty lucky.

Energy Ingredients of BOOSTER EXOTIC

BOOSTER EXOTIC
Contains 105.6mg of caffeine, 1320mg of taurine, and simple energy ingredients. It also includes apple, mango, orange, and passion fruit, though it seems there isn't much fruitiness to enjoy.

Design of BOOSTER EXOTIC

The can design features the classic BOOSTER style with an orange background and burst lines. It looks like a typical budget energy drink with a simple, unrefined design. It probably wasn’t designed with much focus.

BOOSTER EXOTIC
Surprisingly, exotic flavors are quite common in Europe, and they’re mostly delicious (๑´ڡ`๑).

During my 2020 trip to Germany, I managed to get my hands on an older BOOSTER EXOTIC.

BOOSTER EXOTIC
The one I reviewed this time is the 2016 version on the right, where the entire can has turned orange. It’s clear that the can is gradually transitioning to all-orange over time.

BOOSTER EXOTIC
Looking from above is also interesting – the tab and the can are both orange, and in the end, even the top becomes orange.

BOOSTER EXOTIC
From left to right, the cans are from 2014, 2015, and the 2016 version (the one I’ve had for a while).

Although it's not a high-juice energy drink, let’s check if the color or quality of the contents has changed over the past 6 years.

BOOSTER EXOTIC
Here’s how they look when poured into glasses. While the 2014 version appears darker in the picture, in reality, all three are almost the same color. There’s no noticeable degradation, and it seems the fruit concentrates are only minimal.

BOOSTER EXOTIC
Both the 2014 and 2015 versions had floating orange particles, possibly from the colorants. The carbonation is strong, so it’s hard to shake it up before drinking, which might be why.

With its rich orange top and blue tab, BOOSTER’s cans are consistent with the blue tab being a standard for energy drinks in Germany, much like Red Bull.

BOOSTER EXOTIC
I don't think BOOSTER consciously adopted the blue tab to mimic Red Bull, but it would be amusing if they did. For several years now, BOOSTER has been using the blue tab with color-coded tops for its regular products.
