In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of BOOSTER GREEN GRASS
The bright, clear green color is typical of energy drinks. It is labeled as "apple mint," but I couldn’t really detect any mint aroma.
When you take a sip, you get a refreshing mint flavor, but there’s almost no trace of apple. It tastes like a mild, sweet-and-sour candy with a hint of mint, but there’s no apple flavor to be found anywhere.
With any drink, apple flavor needs to be quite strong to be recognized properly in both taste and aroma. If you drink a mildly flavored apple drink like BOOSTER GREEN GRASS blindfolded, most people wouldn’t even recognize it as apple. The can says "apple," and there’s an illustration of an apple, so people will try to convince themselves it’s apple, but with BOOSTER GREEN GRASS, even that’s difficult.
Perhaps it would have been better if they had made the apple flavor stronger and paired it with a more noticeable mint aroma and cool sensation to give the product a unique character. As it is, the minty scent is too subtle, and overall, I couldn't really figure out what I was drinking (ヽ´ω`)
Energy Ingredients of BOOSTER GREEN GRASS
It contains 105.6mg of caffeine, 1320mg of taurine, and guarana, along with apple. However, in terms of flavor, it’s pretty underwhelming.
Design of BOOSTER GREEN GRASS
The name "Green Grass" is a mystery. I thought it would have a grassy, herbaceous flavor before drinking it (^_^;)
It was discontinued about two years after its 2014 release. I found the taste to be quite lacking, and with so many flavor options in the BOOSTER range, it probably didn’t get much attention. Given how underwhelming the taste was, I can understand why it didn’t last long—it was a step away from being a "gimmick" drink.
