When you taste it, the flavor is exactly as expected—a rich, sweet, and sour raisin-like concentrate with a mix of blueberry, blackberry, cherry, and plum, all wrapped in a full-bodied sweetness that makes you want to savor it slowly during the winter. It’s surprisingly delicious.

There’s a caramel-like sweetness that complements the berry flavors, giving it a richer taste. Upon checking the back of the can, it’s labeled as “Bilberry Vanilla Flavor.”

Honestly, the vanilla flavor is barely noticeable. Instead, the intense caramel sweetness and the berry-like dried fruit mix seem to suit the flavor much better.

The caramel flavor pairs well with the berries, making it the perfect drink to slowly enjoy on a cold, long winter night. During the same time, RED BULL WINTER EDITION 2016 Zwetschke-Zimtnelke (Austria-only) was also released, and it’s a pretty good competition for BOOSTER WINTER EDITION 2016.

BOOSTER WINTER EDITION 2016 is the first seasonal edition in the BOOSTER series, which has previously featured simple designs. With a Santa hat, it’s clearly a winter-themed energy drink you can easily spot in stores.

The purple color evokes the image of a snowy night, which is actually quite fitting. Despite the tacky burst pattern design, I can forgive it because the flavor is so good.

Released in 2016, the winter edition wasn’t continued in 2017, though the second installment was launched in 2019. Personally, I think BOOSTER WINTER EDITION 2016 is the best product in the BOOSTER series. It could compete directly with the Red Bull Winter Edition released at the same time.

And all of this for just 70 yen. Honestly, if you think low-cost energy drinks are uncool, you’re missing out. Every so often, a truly great product like this shines through.

That said, BOOSTER does have some questionable creations, like BOOSTER THUNDER STORM, which makes you wonder who it’s meant for, but that’s part of the fun of discovering gems like this (*´艸｀*)
