In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of Bob Ross POSITIVE ENERGY DRINK
Upon opening the can, I noticed only a faintly sweet aroma, with no distinct scent to evoke a specific flavor. The fragrance was so weak that it almost seemed as if no flavoring was used at all. While the scent was minimal, the liquid inside was a vivid and intense blue—very much the kind of bold color you'd expect from an energy drink. Let's give it a taste.
The initial taste is mildly sweet, with a hint of weak acidity resembling a berry candy flavor.
There's no real fruitiness or depth to the flavor—it's more like a heavily sugared berry candy. Additionally, the flavoring is so faint that it's hard to identify what I'm drinking, leaving the impression that the recipe feels incomplete.
Boston America is known for randomizing the contents of its drinks. In the past, there was no information about the flavors, but this time they disclosed that the drinks come in three options: blue mixed berry, purple bubble gum, and red cherry. Judging by the taste, I appear to have the blue mixed berry flavor.
Energy Ingredients of Bob Ross POSITIVE ENERGY DRINK
The drink contains 100 mg of caffeine, taurine, ginseng, and guarana.
However, it also packs an astonishing 42 g of sugar. With this much sugar, you'd expect the flavor to have a much stronger impact, but instead, it feels like you're consuming excessive sweetness without the payoff of a robust flavor. This lackluster flavor is likely due to the weak flavoring.
For a 355 ml can with 42 g of sugar, the taste should have more presence, but the underwhelming flavor seems to stem entirely from insufficient flavoring.
Design of Bob Ross POSITIVE ENERGY DRINK
The design features a smiling Bob Ross alongside his signature red autograph.
One downside is that Bob Ross's photo is so large that it obscures much of the oil painting in the background. It's a bit of a shame, as Bob Ross was known for completing stunning landscape paintings within the 30-minute runtime of his show.
I remember watching "The Joy of Painting," Bob Ross's art class program, when it aired on BS in Japan. I never imagined there would one day be an energy drink featuring Bob Ross.
Boston America's products are only available in limited outlets, so I stumbled upon this drink by chance while hunting for unique items. Even as a single purchase, it was affordably priced at $1.99 in 2024 in the U.S.
Incidentally, this was my first time finding a Boston America product directly in stores. Since they aren't carried by major supermarkets or convenience stores, you'd need to research ahead of time to locate a retailer. Without doing so, it would be challenging to spot them.
