In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of PAC-MAN BONUS FRUIT ENERGY DRINK
As soon as I opened it, a bitter fruit scent wafted out, and I thought, "This must be a citrus fruit flavor!"—which gave me a slight sense of relief.
The thing is, energy drinks from Boston America often have the same contents inside different packaging. Sometimes the flavor is standard, other times it's something unexpected, making it feel quite inconsistent. While there are a few combinations of packaging and contents, if it's a typical flavor, my motivation to try it completely drops (ヽ´ω`).
When poured into a glass, it turns into a bright yellow liquid, reminiscent of vitamin drinks.
The scent reminded me of grapefruit, so it was a little different from what I had expected. I thought it would have a more cloudy fruitiness to it.
When drinking it, there's a strong citrus lime flavor with a sharp acidity that hits the throat. Once you get used to the acidity, it transforms into a sweeter limeade flavor.
The bitter scent is an accent, but it doesn’t affect the taste with any bitterness or astringency; it only lingers as a scent. The carbonation is also mild, which makes it feel a bit lacking in refreshment.
This can be likened to other citrus-flavored energy drinks, such as the AMP Original or Full Throttle Original. The difference with PAC-MAN Bonus Fruit is that it lets you enjoy the scent of grapefruit. The fragrance is quite impressive.
Energy Ingredients of PAC-MAN BONUS FRUIT ENERGY DRINK
It contains 120mg of caffeine, 1000mg of taurine, 50mg of inositol, 25mg of guarana, and 25mg of ginseng, which are part of Boston America's energy blend. There are no special ingredients for flavor enhancement.
Given the name "Bonus Fruit," I was expecting a fruitier taste or at least a little bit of fruit juice, but it was pretty standard (^_^;)
Is it a must-have for Pac-Man Fans?
Apparently, this PAC-MAN energy drink is quite popular. As of 2018, it’s still being sold, and they’ve even upgraded the size from a 250ml can to a 355ml can, continuing its release!
Considering that the Mario Energy Drink from the same Boston America was discontinued, it seems the Pac-Man series still has a loyal fan base.
By the way, this drink is licensed. Before I did some research, I honestly thought it was an illegal product Σ(´∀`;)
As an energy drink, it checks all the boxes in terms of ingredients, and the packaging is eye-catching. As a concept-based energy drink, it’s well done, but I do wish they had crafted the flavor to better match the product.
The pull tab, as usual, had a silver ring tab.
