In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Color is Subtle, but Taste is Well Done
Upon opening, there was the scent of overripe apricots. I thought it might be a fruit juice-based drink, but just like the company's other products, it had no juice. Instead of a deteriorated fruit juice scent, it seems to have the characteristic aroma of the PAC-MAN Power Up Energy Drink.
The color is a bit difficult to capture in photos, but it’s a greenish-yellow ochre. The appearance is very similar to a cloudy tea, which is quite unappealing at first glance.
Upon tasting, the main flavor is a rich apple mixed with other fruity notes. The balance of sweetness and sourness is just right, and I was surprised by how tasty it was, much better than I expected. The color and taste are so different that there’s a bit of a mismatch.
It’s a refreshing fruit mix flavor that still offers a satisfying level of richness, making it a drink that almost anyone can enjoy.
When I looked into the PAC-MAN Power Up Energy Drink, I found that other versions have a pale pink or bright red color. It seems that Boston America products might vary depending on the individual batch.
This particular version had a great fruity flavor, but if I encounter another one in the future, the contents may be different, which is a bit disappointing.
Energy Ingredients of PAC-MAN POWER UP ENERGY DRINK
It contains 120mg of caffeine, 1000mg of taurine, 50mg of inositol, 25mg of guarana, and 25mg of ginseng from the Boston America energy blend.
I thought it might have some fruit juice in it, but it’s actually juice-free. To enjoy such a refreshing fruit flavor without any juice is a pleasant surprise and a nice twist.
Realizing the Carelessness of Boston America
As mentioned in the review, not just PAC-MAN, but all of Boston America's products don’t match the appearance with the contents. Even if you buy the same product, the contents can be random, which is simply crazy.
After doing some research, I’ve seen the same packaging with different colored contents, so if the color is different, the taste is likely to be different as well. You should expect that with Boston America products, there’s a chance that "the taste may differ from what’s shown in the review."
Boston America's energy drinks are officially licensed, and all their products have this license displayed on the packaging.
Of course, they can’t just use famous characters without permission and sell them all over the U.S., right? (^_^;)
