Burn Energy Drink (first product released in Japan)

Posted on June 24, 2013 | Last updated February 21, 2025

burn
Raspberry flavor. It contains D-ribose, BCAA, and other ingredients, giving it quite a sporty vibe. That said, the amounts are so small that for serious athletes, it’s more of a negligible level.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Flavor of burn

The flavor doesn’t taste much like an energy drink, with a sweet and tangy raspberry note that makes me wonder if it’s aimed at women. The scent is also quite fruity. There’s a strong berry taste, so those who aren’t fond of berry flavors might not be able to handle burn. Personally, I really like the fruit-like flavor with a pronounced tanginess (*´艸`*)

Can Design of burn

The can design is simple and nice. Compared to its predecessor, buzz, which was the precursor to burn, I think this design looks more refined and cool. However, this design is now a deadstock, as the new pink design has been adopted. Personally, I prefer the older black design (the one featured in these photos) over the new pink design.

The 6-can pack cover is surprisingly sturdy and easy to carry. I think this is really good, especially since ROCKSTAR’s packaging would tear easily and the cans would fall apart. Overall, you can really feel the design attention in this one.
