burn SUBZERO
In 2013, burn SUBZERO was released in Turkey. Turkey was a unique country that offered many exclusive burn products. Be sure to check out reviews of other distinctive burn series as well.
On the can, underneath "SUBZERO," it simply says "Zero Sugar," so I thought it would be the original zero sugar version, but it turned out to be something entirely different. So, what does it taste like? Let's try it out right away!

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of burn SUBZERO
When opened, a sweet and tangy, refreshing green apple flavor bursts out. It's very similar to burn BLUE REFRESH. When I poured it into a glass, the color was clear blue, so the taste is also reminiscent of a green apple flavor. Let's give it a try.
Upon tasting, the base flavor is definitely sweet green apple, but the sweetness, tartness, and umami of the green apple are all quite mild, giving it a taste similar to diluted burn BLUE REFRESH.
It's not the typical "weak flavor" or "too light" or "unsatisfying" that you'd expect, but more like a taste that has been diluted with water. The strong scent makes this even more noticeable.
So, why does it taste like this? It’s probably due to the artificial sweeteners. After all, burn SUBZERO is a zero sugar product. To adjust the flavor, artificial sweeteners are used, but the tartness needed to replicate the apple flavor is overwhelmingly weak, and there’s no depth to match the scent level, so it ends up feeling like a weak, sweet taste overall.
The can design is nice, and the product name, SUBZERO (subzero), made me expect it to have a cooling sensation, but it was a total disappointment. It’s not bad, but I’m sure many Turks would have given it a low rating. If that’s the case, you might as well buy the full sugar version.
Energy Ingredients of burn SUBZERO
Contains 37.5mg of caffeine, taurine, inositol, and guarana. No special ingredients are included.
Design of burn SUBZERO
The design beautifully expresses the freezing ice image with just blue and white, directly representing the product name burn SUBZERO.
The design itself is very simple, using only blue, white, and straight lines, yet it effectively conveys the chill of ice and strongly asserts the product’s image without disrupting the brand’s image. It's quite impressive.
The contrasting naming of the brand "burn" and the product name "SUBZERO" is also cool. The idea of burning even in subzero temperatures gives a strong energy drink vibe and heightens expectations.
burn SUBZERO was available in two sizes: 250ml and 500ml. Both feature a perfectly balanced logo and text size, with well-considered spacing, creating a reassuring design.
At the time of its release, burn was still a Coca-Cola energy drink brand, and the promotion was well-executed. The product image was boosted with PR efforts right alongside the launch. Looking back at past promotions, I can’t help but feel nostalgic for those times.
