MEGA PACHI
In March 2019, CHELIO released the "Mega Pachi" energy drink.
With its bold design, quirky name, and a high caffeine content of 130mg, this energy drink seems geared towards tackling fatigue.
The catchy slogan "Invincible Awakening, Strong Carbonation, Intense Stimulation – It's Crazy!!" gives a hint of the experience it promises. Let’s dive into a detailed review.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of Mega Pachi
When poured into a glass, the intense carbonation creates a strong fizz! The scent is a sweet aroma, but it doesn’t quite reach the standard energy drink flavor profile. If you bring your nose close to the glass, the bubbles and ginger-like刺激 (stimulation) can overwhelm the mucous membranes, so be cautious.
Upon tasting, there's a sweet flavor with a faint chemical taste, and it's clear that it doesn't quite meet the mark of a typical energy drink flavor. There’s no sourness, but the sweetness isn’t overwhelming either, leaving behind an unpleasant artificial sweetener aftertaste.
There’s a slight tingling sensation, possibly from ginger. The back of the can mentions “tingling and cooling sensations” as a feature. I wonder if the sensation that stimulates the mucous membranes when smelling it is due to the ginger?
However, the nutritional label doesn't mention ginger. Still, the tingling sensation on the tongue and the stimulating aroma certainly feel ginger-like. Personally, I found the tingling uncomfortable, and the unnatural aftertaste of the artificial sweeteners left a strong impression. Even though it was a 250ml mini-size, I couldn't finish a whole can (ヽ´ω`).
Energy Ingredients of Mega Pachi
It contains 130mg of caffeine and 300mg of arginine.
For a 250ml size, this is a high amount of caffeine, and the caffeine per 100ml is comparable to other high-caffeine energy drinks.
If you're looking for the awakening effect of caffeine, it's better to drink a smaller 250ml can all at once rather than sipping on a larger 500ml one.
Design of Mega Pachi
The can features a bold design with kabuki-inspired makeup across the entire surface.
It’s a design that’s uniquely Japanese, but it’s not your typical cool energy drink design. It leans more towards a humorous, quirky design. The goal seems to be to catch your eye as a fun and amusing drink, something that would stand out and make you want to pick it up. In fact, it’s often discussed online as a joke drink.
The back of the can features Mega Pachi's catchy slogan. "Invincible Awakening" clearly focuses on the novelty factor, completely ignoring the idea of a delicious flavor or a cool, typical energy drink experience, and instead, it's packed with entertainment value.
