Coca Cola ENERGY SUGER FREE
In Europe and the United States, it's common for a sugar-free version of Coca-Cola Energy to be released alongside the original. This review focuses on the sugar-free version from Hungary. The labeling can vary slightly between countries, with terms like "No Sugar" or "Sugar-Free" being used.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of Coca Cola ENERGY SUGAR FREE
The color is a slightly lighter reddish-brown compared to regular Coca-Cola. The scent is not very strong.
Upon sipping, the flavor is a mildly sweet cola taste, with no noticeable acidity. The smooth, gentle sweetness wraps around your mouth. While there is a slight aftertaste of artificial sweeteners, overall it is balanced with a mellow sweetness that is not overpowering. The aftertaste is clean, with no lingering residue.
On its own, Coca-Cola Energy Sugar-Free may feel a bit underwhelming, but when paired with something sweet like pancakes, it complements the sweetness without overwhelming it, offering a refreshing balance.
In the end, it has the typical taste of a zero cola, so it's not the kind of drink you'd savor on its own.
Energy Ingredients of Coca Cola ENERGY SUGAR FREE
Contains 80mg of caffeine and 25mg of guarana. It does not contain taurine, which is present in regular Coca-Cola Energy. While taurine is not a dangerous ingredient, it seems that taurine-free energy drinks have been increasingly popular in recent times.
Design of Coca Cola ENERGY SUGAR FREE
The sugar-free version has the same red design as the regular version, with a black line across the top and the words "SUGAR FREE" written on it.
Depending on the country, it might be completely blacked out, or in the case of the U.S., a quarter of the can is black. However, having "SUGAR FREE" represented in black feels a bit strange. I believe this design was borrowed from Coca-Cola Zero.
The American version of the design is the easiest to recognize, as it retains the Coca-Cola Energy pattern on the can, which I think is better than a fully blacked-out design.
The tab color differs by country, and I think the black tab from the UK matches best with the sugar-free black design.
Coca-Cola Energy is being sold around the world, including in Japan, but there hasn't been much good news or a strong start so far. There were news reports about the release of a cherry flavor in Europe, but I fear it might fade out before it gains much traction. Here is the news about the cherry flavor release in Europe.
