CULT RAW ENERGY SUGAR FREE
Released in 1998, the CULT RAW ENERGY SUGAR FREE is from the long-established Danish energy drink brand "CULT." This review covers the early version of the product that was sold when the series was first introduced.
This time, I’m reviewing the old design and the original sugar-free version. (Currently, a completely redesigned sugar-free version is being sold, which is quite different from this one.)

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of CULT RAW ENERGY SUGAR FREE
Opening the can releases a refreshing, classic flavor aroma. It gives off the scent of a sugar-free type, as is common with European sugar-free drinks.
When I take a sip, the taste is a refreshing, sour, unsweetened classic flavor. As expected, the sweetness has been almost perfectly removed from the flavor. This is ideal for those who enjoy the characteristic taste of energy drinks but find them too sweet.
In European classic flavors, "sugar-free" typically doesn't mean "naturally sweet like full sugar," but rather, "sugar-free means no sugar, so it's not sweet." This type is by far the most common.
While the artificial sweeteners may leave a slight aftertaste, the sharp acidity gives it a satisfying taste. If you chill it thoroughly, it provides a nice, crisp flavor.
Energy Ingredients of CULT RAW ENERGY SUGAR FREE
Contains 80mg of caffeine, taurine, and guarana.
Despite containing artificial sweeteners, it does not use aspartame, which may be a concern for some. While many energy drinks don't use aspartame, some sugar-free options do, so it's a good idea to check the nutritional label if you're sensitive to it.
Design of CULT RAW ENERGY SUGAR FREE
A simple design with a matte white can and a red CULT logo, making it immediately clear that it’s sugar-free.
However, unnecessary text is scattered around to fill the empty space, and it feels like the design could have been more minimalist and better utilized the empty space. While it’s not a particularly refined design for an early release, the redesign has significantly changed the aesthetic. This original design might even be considered valuable now.
It’s true that some people are negative about artificial sweeteners, and the fact that it does not contain aspartame is clearly stated on the can. Nowadays, fewer products emphasize this fact, and it feels like a throwback to an earlier era.
