Sparkling Yunker is amazing in many ways

Posted on March 11, 2014 | Last updated February 16, 2025

This is from quite a while ago, but for some reason, I ended up buying about 30 bottles of Sparkling Yunkeru. I still can’t quite remember why I bought them... but I think it was because I thought of them as a "pseudo energy drink." That’s the only explanation I can think of.

I finally got around to drinking it recently, and honestly, it’s not very tasty. It seems like many others have tweeted about how bad it tastes as well.
Before drinking it, I thought to myself, "Maybe people are saying it’s bad just because they don’t understand the taste of energy drinks?" But after trying it, I laughed because it was just as bad as the reviews said.

It’s not a disgusting, "unpalatable" taste, so it’s not something you could use for a punishment game. The flavor is completely different from typical energy drinks. You’ll probably wonder, "Wait, what is this?" The only redeeming quality is that it’s zero calories. If only the bitter taste of the herbal medicine had been more pronounced in the sparkling drink, it might have felt like a new experience with a "OMG! The bitterness bursts!" kind of vibe.

By the way, the expiration date is this month, so I’m drinking it every day and thought I’d write this article. So far, I haven’t gotten used to it enough to trick myself into thinking it tastes good.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
