Expired energy drinks
Before I Knew It, Energy Drinks Were Expiring Left and Right
At Energy Drink-kun's place, there are often energy drinks from the past just sitting around, and I only notice them after the fact. Among the ones I noticed, two Starbucks Doubleshot Energy drinks I drank this month had expired a few months ago.
Not just Starbucks, but coffee-based energy drinks tend to have a lot of milk additives, and it's hard to tell how much they degrade once canned. Even though I drank two that had been expired for nearly half a year for two consecutive days, I didn’t get an upset stomach (*´艸`*)
As for the taste, it didn’t seem to have deteriorated at all.
I suspect they were produced 1-2 years ago... I don’t even remember buying them, so I’d like to gradually clear out this stock and finish them off. I don't think there are any older energy drinks left though.
Why the Expiration Date Became a Concern
The reason the expiration date concerned me is, as mentioned earlier, because they contain dairy products. I’m not particularly fond of how dairy products spoil, and when I flipped the can over, I was surprised to see that it was well past its expiration date.
This time, it hadn’t even been six months yet, so it was still good to drink, but after more than a year, some milk-based drinks start to have their milk solids separate. For those who enjoy that, it could be a different experience, but Energy Drink-kun will pass on that one.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
