The smell of energy drinks is strong on the train

Posted on July 20, 2014 | Last updated February 16, 2025

I Thought the Smell of Energy Drinks on the Train Was Just a Joke

The other day, I was on the train, and a girl got on drinking a Monster, and the smell was so intense that I was surprised.

I’ve often seen tweets like “Don’t drink energy drinks on the train,” but I didn’t actually think the smell would be this strong.
And even though she was drinking it from quite a distance, I could still smell it very sensitively (;´∀`).

I originally thought it was just a joke from people who didn’t like the smell of energy drinks, but this was completely different.
For those not drinking it, the smell is too strong, so it probably feels like a nuisance. It’s like, “Don’t make your lunch smell when I haven’t eaten anything.”
Even for people who like energy drinks, if the smell just drifts by, you’d probably feel awkward, considering both yourself and those around you.

It Turns Out It Also Emits a Strong Smell at Home

I thought drinking energy drinks on the train was a little problematic, but I found out that if I start drinking energy drinks at home, the smell is noticeable.

Since I enjoy the aroma while drinking, I didn’t realize it, but apparently, it’s like the smell of freshly brewed coffee filling the air.
For people who dislike traditional energy drinks, it must be pretty hellish, haha.

Recently, I haven’t had many traditional energy drinks for reviews, so I haven’t been committing any smell terrorism, but I realized that moving forward, I need to drink it quickly after opening and handle the smell appropriately (u_u*)

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
