Will energy drinks be banned in Japan? Will coffee help you stay healthy?
Energy Drink Caffeine News Gains Momentum
Recently, news articles were shared on various news sites in Japan, discussing the potential ban of energy drinks in Japan, alongside news of a death incident in the U.S. related to energy drink consumption. These articles also referenced laws in places like Lithuania, where energy drink purchases are prohibited for those under 18, as well as mentioning that "drinking too much is not good" and "it’s not impossible that Japan could also ban them."
While that’s true, I haven’t heard any movements regarding a ban just yet.
A few days after that news, another article came out stating that coffee and green tea are good for health. One of the beneficial ingredients in these drinks is caffeine. Though this seems contradictory to the previous news, the takeaway was that consuming caffeine in moderation can actually have health benefits.
Energy Drink Search Volume Spikes
This type of news tends to pop up and fade away often, so those who are regular energy drink enthusiasts probably think, “Here we go again.” However, I personally felt that the reach of this news was much larger this time.
When searching for "energy drink" on Twitter, there were a large number of tweets about the potential ban, and it was hard to find regular tweets.
Also, when searching for "energy drink," the traffic to our site, Energy Drink Mania, skyrocketed, and it ranked in the top 1-3 for that keyword search. The increase in search volume for "energy drink" alone was this dramatic.
During this period, the traffic was about three times higher than usual. Overall, traffic surged with people searching for keywords related to energy drinks and the news. It seems to be gradually settling down now.
As Long as We Enjoy Energy Drinks in Moderation, It’s Fine
Thanks to the news about the potential ban, some people who normally don’t pay attention to energy drinks probably visited the site.
I hope that through this, people can start to see energy drinks not as "dangerous" or something "only for special occasions" (though I’m not fond of that phrase when it comes to energy drinks), but as something that can be enjoyed regularly, as a tasty and cool beverage. (Though, I don’t think many will have that change of perception this time, haha.)
Also, when reading through the site, they’ll see that there’s almost no difference in terms of the "danger" between energy drinks in Japan and those overseas. The common myth that "overseas Red Bull is dangerous" is one of those misconceptions.
Energy Drink Mania is purely a site for enjoying energy drinks and learning about the global energy drink scene. If even a few people become curious about it from this discussion, that would make me happy (u_u*)

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
