Looking back on my energy drink life in 2021.
I never thought that I wouldn’t be able to go on an overseas trip in 2021. As a result, my passion for energy drinks faded almost entirely. The enjoyment of collecting mass-produced commercial beverages and drinking a lot of them didn’t suit me, and once I discovered the joy that comes from various experiences, I suppose this was bound to happen.
That being said, I still have a large backlog of reviews waiting to be done, so I’ve been gradually working through it. Occasionally, when I come across a really good one, it makes writing the review fun. I hope to be able to go abroad a bit next year, even if just a little.
Domestic energy drinks had a year full of new releases. It felt like there were perhaps too many. Despite the large number of releases, I didn’t feel like there were any with a particularly big impact. It feels like they’re just riding the wave of the energy drink boom. I think it’s about time for things to settle down (^_^;)
The market seems to be lively, but the energy drink fans on social media have been dwindling year by year, and it feels like the excitement of the past is gone. Especially in 2020 and 2021, it felt like things were already winding down. People who have enjoyed energy drinks for a long time hardly post on social media anymore, and I hardly check it myself. I’ve completely shifted to using social media in its original way, to share announcements or interesting things, a change that’s been happening for a few years now. I used to feel proud of how much I helped hype things up in the past, but… I guess it’s fine now.
I’ve already written 1000 reviews in draft form, but many haven’t made it to publication, so I gave up on reaching 1000 reviews by the end of 2021. I just didn’t have the time, and I suppose that’s just how it goes. How many will I be able to publish next year!?

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
