In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Flavor of 2Energy

Upon opening, a sweet, fruity aroma fills the air. However, the scent doesn’t immediately give away which fruit is the main flavor. What will it taste like? Let’s try it.
2 Energy (Too Energy)
When I take a sip, the mouthfeel is light and crisp with a sweet and tangy fruit mix flavor. The mix, with its prominent cranberry and acerola notes, isn’t overly bold but rather calm with a subtle floral undertone.

The aftertaste remains tart, but there’s little lingering residue in the mouth, and the unpleasantness of artificial sweeteners isn’t too noticeable, making it a relatively easy-to-drink zero-zero product.

However, whether you find it easy to drink or somewhat lacking will depend heavily on personal taste. Also, given that 2Energy is a high-priced energy drink, opinions about whether the flavor justifies the price will likely vary widely.

Energy Ingredients of 2Energy

2 Energy (Too Energy)
With zero caffeine and no other ingredients aimed at improving physical performance or mental clarity, there are no significant energy ingredients in this drink. It’s fair to wonder, "Where’s the energy boost?" when looking at the product.

The front of the can mentions it contains no fruit juice, but it does include cassis, cranberry, camu camu, pomegranate, blueberry, rosehip, and acerola.

Design of 2Energy

The matte white can features a beautiful gradient with the 2foods logo, while the simple design is composed of white and black text.
2 Energy (Too Energy)
From its appearance, it gives off a stylish, almost health-conscious vibe. However, it’s also on the pricey side: 250ml for ¥248 (tax included).

2 Energy (Too Energy)
On the back, there’s an “energy poem.” With zero calories, zero sugar, and zero caffeine, the concept is aimed at those who have been feeling guilty or struggling while drinking energy drinks. (From the official description)

It Would Be Great if It Was Cheaper

The 2Energy is an energy drink created by 2foods, a company in the growing plant-based food sector.

Personally, I’m not opposed to vegan products, and I have a good impression of the rise of plant-based foods recently. The taste of actual plant-based food is often very high-quality, and I would be happy to see it expand. But… it tends to be on the pricier side, which means it’s not something I can regularly replace with my everyday meals or dining out.

Now that the major brands have firmly established the energy drink scene, even though 2Energy offers a different concept, I feel that ¥248 for a 250ml mini-size can is a bit too expensive. I’ll be curious to see how they promote and expand the product in the future.
