In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of 42.195km〈FORTYTWO〉SILVER
The scent is sweet when you open it, reminiscent of vitamin drinks that are commonly found. But just the scent.
When poured, the drink is a bright yellow, quite a strong yellow.
The taste is surprisingly sour and intense, much stronger than you’d expect from the scent. While there's a lingering sweetness, the sourness really dominates.
The flavor is similar to a combination of Miracle Energy V, with its sweetness removed, and the intense sourness of Shark Energy Drink.
If you've tried both, you can imagine what it’s like. It’s exactly that combination.
The aftertaste has a slight chemical hint and a faint peculiar flavor, which I couldn’t quite place.
Not sure what it is (´・ω・`).
Can't Tell Which One is the Product Name from the Can
At first, I thought the product name was 42.195km, based on the marathon distance. It's a unique choice for a name. But underneath, it also says FORTYTWO SILVER.
Then, further down, it says Ginseno Energy Drink, and the back also mentions it in red. But with the addition of "with Ginsenosides," I was completely confused.
After a quick search, I found out the product name is actually 42.195km〈FORTYTWO〉. This one is categorized as "Silver." Now it makes sense why the can looks this way. Apparently, there's also another version, "Power," which is a 100ml concentrate with more potent ingredients.
I didn’t realize 42.195km was just part of the name. I thought it represented endurance or stamina, and they just used it directly in the product name.
Energy Ingredients of 42.195km〈FORTYTWO〉SILVER
It turns out "Ginseno Energy Drink" is more of a concept rather than a product name.
This drink was created by a company specializing in Korean ginseng, which is the main theme of the drink. The primary ingredient in ginseng is Ginsenosides, which only make up 1-3% of the ginseng. For this "Silver" version, it contains 30mg per can.
However, Monster Energy in the U.S. contains 400mg of ginseng, meaning this one has 10 times less ginseng than that. But since there are other ingredients included, I assume it’s not purely ginseng but a mix of components. Still, I wonder how effective 30mg of Ginsenosides can be. From the concept, it seems to have a slow and sustained effect.
It also contains 88mg of caffeine extracted from guarana. Considering it's labeled as a Ginseno Energy Drink, you'd expect it to have more caffeine, though (;´∀`).
Drank After a Morning Dash
I happened to find it after doing some morning hill sprints, and since the can says "RUN AGAIN!!!," I decided to give it a try.
After exercising, the sourness felt refreshing, but the taste might leave you feeling more thirsty. For post-workout, water or a sports drink would probably be better, haha.
