Energy Bomber

Posted on February 2, 2022 | Last updated February 3, 2025

Energy Bomber
Energy Bomber is a Japanese low-cost energy drink that has been around since the early days of energy drinks. The fact that it is still on the market with such a cringe-worthy name suggests that there must be something special about its remarkably good taste, not just its low price.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Flavor of Energy Bomber

Opening the can, a clear, sweet and sour scent from a classic flavor profile fills the air. You can immediately tell just by the color that it's a typical, classic flavor.
Energy Bomber
Taking a sip, it’s indeed a straightforward, classic flavor. In fact, it’s very similar to Red Bull. The sweet and sour taste and scent are basically a Red Bull clone. With this level of tastiness, there's no need to buy Red Bull anymore.

During the first Energy Drink Boom, many no-name energy drinks tried to add unique flavors or scents to the classic profile but ended up failing. Among them, Energy Bomber is perhaps the most popular Red Bull clone, aiming for the classic flavor, priced at around 100 yen, with a reliable taste that offers no disappointments—it's like the perfect product from a lesser-known brand.

The downside is that it’s not widely available, and recently, it’s become difficult to find. It’s a shame that such a well-balanced, good product isn't sold in convenience stores and supermarkets more easily, as this represents a limitation in Japan's energy drink scene.

Energy Ingredients of Energy Bomber

Energy Bomber
It contains 80mg of caffeine and 300mg of other ingredients. This is the same as the caffeine content in a can of Red Bull of the same size. Both the taste and ingredients are at the same level as Red Bull.

This is the perfect drink for those who choose energy drinks based on the classic flavor first, and appreciate a decent balance of ingredients.

Design of Energy Bomber

Despite the somewhat cheap impression the product name "Energy Bomber" gives, the catchphrase "Minagiru Chikara" (Power to Revitalize) written in Katakana shines with bold creativity.
Energy Bomber
If they had worked on elements like font size, type, and margin, the design could have been improved a bit more, but honestly, expecting too much from a low-cost energy drink design would be nonsensical.

Especially for Energy Bomber, the stable flavor means that for people who associate energy drinks with the taste of Red Bull, the design won’t matter once they take a sip.

Energy Bomber’s design has changed since 2014, evolving from left to right.
Energy Bomber
There may have been even more changes over time, as it’s become increasingly rare to see it these days...

Energy Bomber is a great product, priced reasonably and with a taste that you can count on. It would be nice if it became easier to purchase. It’s rare to see an energy drink that has continued for this long.
