This is a review of GO&FUN Green Energy Drink, a natural energy drink from Italy.

The can design is quite eye-catching. This new energy drink was created in Italy in 2012, and it seems that licensed sales have started in Japan.

Flavor of GO&FUN Green Energy Drink

The aroma is quite strong, with fruity scents like muscat grapes, grapefruit, and lychee. It was surprising, as the pre-release buzz suggested a green tea focus for the Japanese market. It’s best to avoid gathering too much information before trying it out!

When poured, it has a beautiful champagne gold color. The scent remains tropical and refreshing after pouring it into a glass.

The taste is a mildly sweet, refreshing fruit mix flavor. While it’s light, it doesn’t feel weak or watery, and you can truly enjoy the fresh tropical fruit flavor. The aftertaste has a distinctive green tea-like aroma and flavor. The carbonation, combined with a mild acidity, enhances the refreshing sensation, making it a very pleasant drink.

I quite like the taste and aroma. If the price were lower, I would definitely repurchase it.

Energy Ingredients of GO&FUN Green Energy Drink

The can provides detailed information. The energy ingredients are all-natural, using ingredients like guarana, mate tea, green tea, ginseng, and rhodiola. The caffeine is naturally sourced from guarana, providing 80mg.

Rhodiola is said to help optimize serotonin and dopamine levels, improving mood and potentially helping with depression. It is also known as a supplement for anti-depressant and smart drug support. I found that Olympic athletes from the former Soviet Union used it to enhance their athletic performance. If the amount is sufficient, it could be quite interesting. (By the way, for highly concentrated herbs, it’s said that effects can be felt within 1–2 months of use.)

GO&FUN Aims for 10% Global Market Share

The official website mentions that GO&FUN has sold 10 million cans in Italy and aims to capture 10% of the global energy drink market within five years. They’re quite ambitious. However, it’s unclear whether the 10% refers to sales revenue, number of cans, or something else. Achieving a 10% global market share would be a challenge, especially considering that Rockstar, which is sold worldwide, likely doesn’t even hold 10%.

In Japan, soccer player Kakitani has been chosen as the main character for the GO&FUN Green Energy Drink campaign, which is refreshing. However, since it’s marketed as a natural energy drink, it could also appeal to yoga or LOHAS markets. The flavor is refreshing with citrus and a green tea aroma. The price, though, is a bit high (around 240 yen), and unless that’s reduced, it’s unlikely to gain widespread popularity.

2022 update: I haven’t seen it in Europe or North America, so I’m not sure where the momentum went. It’s still a tough market.

On March 27, 2019, a collaboration can with Evangelion was released. I found it in Yokosuka and got one.

I don't usually buy GO&FUN because it’s expensive, but the flavor is nice, and it doesn’t get tiring, so if it’s on sale, I would buy a whole case.

GO&FUN × Hatsune Miku Collaboration Can

In 2021, GO&FUN collaborated with Hatsune Miku. Unfortunately, I never encountered the 2021 version before it was discontinued, but I was waiting for the last few months before the expiration date to get some from Rakuten...

The 2022 version was released on July 15. The price is 300 yen (tax included), which is relatively high for an energy drink. The availability is limited, so it’s a good idea to grab one if you spot it.

The 2023 GO&FUN Hatsune Miku collaboration can will be released on April 21, 2023. When I went to Lawson, where the Miku cans had been displayed all year instead of the regular versions, I found the 2023 version and grabbed one. It seems to have become a yearly tradition for these collaboration products.
