Joma
Joma is a new product released in 2014, and it has been quite active with sampling events for Chocolaa BB's energy drink, as well as giveaway campaigns for 100,000 people.
The can is bright red with a smooth texture, and the design features a witch’s hand reaching down from above to grab the can. The red color definitely conveys a strong witch-like image.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Joma's Color Was Realistic
Looking at the color of the liquid poured into the glass... it's just regular yellow. I was expecting a much more vibrant, witch-like red color, but that wasn’t the case. The scent also reminded me of typical vitamin drinks, and I was immediately like, "Wait, what?" Could it be Real Gold?
The can design is interesting, but once poured, the vitamin drink flavor might diminish the excitement, don't you think?
Joma's Taste Review
The taste is that of a tart, vitamin-based drink. The fragrance and lingering sourness are quite noticeable. I was expecting something more berry-like, but it turned out to be a regular vitamin drink, which was different from what I imagined. Some others shared the same feeling.
It feels like it doesn't quite fit the witch theme (;´∀`)
On a more serious note, considering the target is women, maybe they decided to skip the typical energy drink flavors and instead went for a vitamin drink taste. The slight medicinal flavor might be necessary to convey the energy-drink vibe. It’s likely that this version is easier for the general public to enjoy. By the way, the low calories and low carbs might also be important factors. No one wants to gain weight from drinking an energy drink, right? (´;ω;`)
Interestingly, above the ingredients list on the can, it says, "For a balanced diet, make sure to include staple foods, main dishes, and side dishes." The witch is all about taking care of health, not poisoning anyone.
Let’s Cast a Happy Spell!
The catchphrase is "Let’s cast a happy spell!"
What happens after Joma casts its spell? (*´∀`*)
Joma, with its witch concept, surprisingly hosts a dance contest, showing their support for energetic youth. So, I guess the target audience is younger people. Personally, I think it would’ve been sexier if actors like Ryoko Shinohara or Norika Fujiwara had been sipping it, though. Just my personal opinion, haha.
Now, I’ll say this, even though it's too late, I think they could have launched a promotion right before Halloween... Without needing to hold a dance contest, the design alone would’ve naturally spread.
If they were going for a dance-related campaign, hosting a large Halloween party at a big club like Ageha with a professional dancer show could've been a great match. Promoting with AAA or something would have worked well. But I wonder how effective it would have been with people who aren’t fans of dancing? Just imagine everyone dancing in Halloween or witch costumes while sipping Joma. I bet it could have made a big media splash (*´艸`*).
However, there might have been a post-hype decline, but that’s a big issue, haha.
When marketed as an energy drink, it feels like it could end up as just another similar product unless they really push a strong, unique concept. Otherwise, it might just go unnoticed like all the other products.
I might have said a lot, but I still have 2 more cans of Joma left, so I’ll happily enjoy them ((o(´∀`)o))
Ah, this is the kind of vibe I was expecting. The glass contains MONSTER ENERGY Rehab ROJO TEA.
