In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of Koda Kumi Energy Drink
Upon opening, a refreshing peach scent immediately fills the air.
When poured, it’s colorless and transparent, giving the impression of a light-flavored energy drink. The carbonation bubbles rise, reminiscent of Rockstar's sparkling energy drinks.
When I took a sip, the sweetness of peach spread out far beyond what I expected from its clear color, offering a tropical fruit flavor mainly dominated by peach.
The aftertaste lingers with the sweetness of peach, so it doesn't feel particularly refreshing, but those who enjoy this sweetness will likely find it satisfying.
Officially, it’s described as having a cherry soda flavor, but I couldn’t really identify that (^_^;)
However, you can still feel a somewhat artificial sweetness and bitterness from the artificial sweeteners, which is a bit disappointing. The ingredient list also mentions spice extracts, but even someone like me, who’s sensitive to spiciness, didn’t feel any heat. I wonder what the purpose of adding this was.
Since it's a 190ml single-serve can, it’s no big deal if you just drink it quickly without thinking about it, though! w
Energy Ingredients of Koda Kumi Energy Drink
It’s calorie-free and uses Acesulfame K and Sucralose as sweeteners. It contains collagen (amount unspecified), royal jelly (amount unspecified), and 150mg of arginine.
There’s no caffeine in it.
It’s marketed as a “women’s energy drink” with beauty-enhancing ingredients, but I often wonder, "Isn’t this more of a beauty drink?"
Can Design of Koda Kumi Energy Drink
The “K15” refers to Koda Kumi’s 15th anniversary of debut.
This energy drink is produced by Koda Kumi and is also part of the 15th anniversary merchandise. As a fan, it’s probably one of the must-have items.
In addition to this energy drink, other 15th anniversary merchandise has been released.
However, the arrows printed on the can pointing upwards in a row are a bit confusing. It reminds me of Enemania.
The official description says that the taste and can design were carefully thought out, so there must be some kind of message or image behind it. I wonder if a can with Koda Kumi’s concert photos or a collaboration can, like Red Bull’s limited-edition cans, would have been a better fit.
The large number of arrows gives the impression that the idea is to “energize” after drinking the energy drink, but because the arrows are connected, it also creates downward arrows. Maybe this is related to the “zero calories” concept? I think the silver arrow is just meant to emphasize one of them pointing upwards.
Looking at these details, I think it’s clear that this energy drink was made more for Koda Kumi’s fans than for the general public. It doesn’t look much like an energy drink at first glance, and even if “K15” is printed, it’s not immediately obvious to people who aren’t familiar with Koda Kumi, so regular people might not be inclined to buy it.
