In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Energy Drink for Women
A light pink. I think it would have been better if it were a deeper pink. It feels a bit wasted here.
The taste is somewhat like a shaved ice syrup (;´∀`). It could have been more intense, but perhaps it was designed this way for the target female audience. Nowadays, girls are chugging down Red Bull and Monster, so a stronger flavor would be fine.
However, when girls who aren't fond of energy drinks tried it, they said it's refreshing and sweet but easy to drink. Does this mean regular girls can become wild cats after drinking it?
It might have been quite the topic in 2012, but recently, I haven't heard much about it. I’ve also heard that they decided to discontinue it recently.
The Design of Lady Panther is Just Too Perfect...
First, I ordered two cases of the 30-can pack with 6 packs of 5 cans each. When you buy the box, you'll notice how the cardboard is also designed, which is great. Especially for Lady Panther, the color of the cardboard and the leopard spots match really well, and it looks fantastic.
And the can. OMG, it’s cute! Such a thorough commitment to the leopard print pattern can only be achieved because the energy drink market is becoming well-established in Japan. If it were just a juice, it would only be seen as a weird, unusual drink.
This is a design that I imagine girls from the gal culture should hold while drinking at clubs. On the other hand, seeing cute girls drinking a leopard-patterned energy drink is quite impactful. I wonder how they will transform after drinking it!
I Hope It Becomes More Popular Among Girls
Now, I feel like I haven't seen Lady Panther around much lately, but I think the product is highly complete in terms of ingredients. Perhaps it’s more about continuous promotion. While they may not be able to do global events or TV ads like Red Bull, there are plenty of cute girls these days, and if they could leverage social media to spread the word and later do magazine tie-ins, the recognition might increase, even if it can't establish a dominant position. (I don’t think energy drinks will be able to shake the popularity of sweet coffee drinks that cute girls always hold).
For example, giving the product to teen and twenty-something girls from magazines like egg, Ranzuki, Seventeen, Popteen, etc., and having them post photos on Twitter and blogs. It would be great if they could also give some to their friends. The 190ml can makes it easy to do this, and the design is really nice. However, I think the design might be hard for those over 30, lol.
In 2012, it seems like they were doing this type of promotion. I’ve seen some people posting selfies with Lady Panther cans close to their faces. I believe this kind of promotion is incredibly important. The viral power is huge.
(It might seem trivial, like when Red Bull cars hand out free drinks on the street, but many people post about receiving them on Twitter. It’s not something to be taken lightly.)
The biggest challenge is probably how to expand distribution channels. This is the part I can’t comment on, though (;´∀`)
It seems they developed the product with input from 4,000 models, and even the design on the back of the package is elaborate. The pink stars add a unique touch. There's no other energy drink quite like this.
I Really Hope They Make a Male Version!
I know it’s a simple idea, but I’d love to see a "Black Panther" with a black can and just the leopard eyes as the design ((o(´∀`)o)) with a tagline like “Men, rise up!” or something that carries various meanings. I want them to make a second edition of Lady Panther for the men, but in an "I’m ready to go" kind of style.
Imagine a commercial where girls at a club are holding Lady Panther cans while dancing, and tough guys are holding Black Panther cans while hitting on them. It would be awesome to upload that on YouTube!
So, while I don’t think Lady Panther will become a series, Energy Drink Man is being a bit serious about this one.
