In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Flavor of LOCAL×ENERGY Yamanashi

While I do question the naming sense of the product "Local Energy Yamanashi," I think it's a great idea to make an energy drink with a peach flavor, which is a local specialty. The packaging is also beautifully designed with perfect coloring.

LOCAL×ENERGY Yamanashi (Local Energy Yamanashi)
The color of the drink is a clear pink, which makes it easy to recognize as peach flavor even when served in a glass. In Japan, this is normal, but overseas, pink doesn’t usually signify peach, and there are even transparent peach drinks.

The scent is a typical Japanese peach. The taste is light with a refreshing peach flavor. Since it’s not technically an energy drink, comparing it is a bit tricky, but you can think of it as a gentle, carbonated peach juice. It's definitely easier to drink for people who don’t enjoy the strong flavors or aromas of traditional energy drinks.

Could Have Highlighted the Peach Flavor More

LOCAL×ENERGY Yamanashi (Local Energy Yamanashi)
Even though it’s meant to represent Yamanashi, I wondered about the 1% peach juice content. For reference, Monster Energy Chaos has 50% fruit juice. (・_・;) It might have been more interesting if the peach flavor was more pronounced, allowing the drink to better represent the deliciousness of Yamanashi peaches and serve as a local pride drink.

It seems like they just wanted to create an energy drink from Yamanashi, but there isn’t much of the typical energy drink characteristics here.

Energy Ingredients of LOCAL×ENERGY Yamanashi

This drink does not contain caffeine. Many people might wonder, "What makes this an energy drink?"

As far as energy ingredients go, it contains the standard 300mg of arginine, which is common in Japanese energy drinks.

Aside from that, it’s more like a carbonated peach juice. The peach juice is naturally from peaches grown in Yamanashi Prefecture.

Since there’s no caffeine, it’s easy to drink without worrying about it.

Would Love to See a Collaboration with Tōgārō and stillichimiya

If Energy Drink-kun were to promote "LOCAL×ENERGY Yamanashi," I would love to see a collaboration with stillichimiya, who is becoming nationally recognized for representing Yamanashi, and their leader Tōgārō (just saying, seriously). These guys have incredible PR for Yamanashi, and above all, they have a strong love for the prefecture. If they didn’t have that in mind when launching the product, well, that’s one thing. But if they didn’t, it’s still okay. (;´∀`)

Anarchy mentions Tōgārō in his lyrics, and even the president of Cyber, Fujita, attends his live performances on national tours. He’s highly respected in and out of the industry. Having lived in the U.S. and continued to represent his hometown after returning to Japan is something I admire.

I feel like the love for the hometown, HIPHOP, and energy drinks could help LOCAL×ENERGY Yamanashi develop a more Yamanashi-like energy.

I’m not a fan of selling things for a high price just by adding “energy,” but if the product is positioned as a way to energize the local area or promote it outwardly, I can imagine it being very successful.

By the way, I’m part of a local HIPHOP crew that’s also made something like this before. There’s also a series where Tōgārō introduces recommended spots in Yamanashi. I’d love to see him officially recognized as an ambassador for the area.
