In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of New Japan Pro Wrestling Energy Drink Strong Style
The scent is sweet, the typical kind, with a slight perfume-like intensity. It’s not a distinctive fragrance, but rather a common one found in domestic mainstream flavors.
As for the taste, it's a smooth, sweet flavor. The color is slightly amber, so I expected it to be a bit richer, but the scent is the strongest element, and the taste itself isn’t as intense. The carbonation isn’t very strong either, so it feels like you're drinking a sweet syrup, and then a mild fizz stimulates your throat as it passes.
The taste is not thick, but it leaves a lingering aftertaste. This is due to the stronger fragrance that remains. The sweet aroma lingers long after drinking, giving a richer and more persistent impression than the actual flavor.
There’s no acidity, so it resembles other energy drinks like Monster. However, compared to Monster, it lacks the intense and heavy flavor.
Energy Ingredients of New Japan Pro Wrestling Energy Drink Strong Style
The energy ingredients are listed at the top of the can, with an American energy drink-like design, which is quite interesting. (*´ェ`*)
It contains 100mg of caffeine, 100mg of taurine, 600mg of arginine, and 200mg of maca. Just like Miracle Energy, taurine is included.
Looking at these ingredients, you definitely get the "Pro Wrestling!" vibe. This amount isn’t significant enough to feel a major difference, but the inclusion of arginine and maca, along with taurine, gives it that typical Japanese energy drink feel.
It’s also interesting that taurine is included, which is unusual for other domestic energy drinks. It’s in a small amount, but I think it was added deliberately for the New Japan Pro Wrestling brand. Some might say, "It only has 100mg of taurine!" but I think it’s there to strengthen the brand image, and in that sense, it’s a good choice. (u_u*)
Design of New Japan Pro Wrestling Energy Drink Strong Style
On the front, there’s the New Japan Pro Wrestling logo, and the black can features a thunderous lightning design with the bold red, black, and yellow logo colors. The design is quite intense!
The back only has the ingredient list, with no mention or message about New Japan Pro Wrestling. It would have been nice to have something here. While there isn’t much space, this makes it feel like just a New Japan Pro Wrestling-themed 250ml can. It seems that they released this energy drink as a piece of fan merchandise for New Japan Pro Wrestling, but considering the potential to attract new fans, I wonder if they could have done more.
On the other hand, considering the ingredient composition and the name "Strong Style," it does convey a sense of pride in being different from other energy drinks.
However, 200 yen seems a bit pricey... Since it’s sold by Cherio, I think they could have priced it at 100 or 150 yen to make it more accessible. Given that the taste is similar to other common domestic energy drinks, I think it would have been better to compete on price.
