In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Pancrase Energy Achieves a Classic Energy Drink Flavor
At first, I thought it was just another energy drink jumping on the trend, but after trying it, I was surprised by how it delivers a solid, classic energy drink flavor. It has a slightly stronger acidity, and the sweetness doesn’t stand out much. However, after two or three sips, the strong aroma spreads. There’s also a bit of Mogu-Mogu texture, so the satisfaction level is fairly high (it contains a thickening agent).
However, the official website states, “We have reduced the unique scent and taste typically found in energy drinks. Achieving a clean aftertaste and refreshing stimulation.” It seems like they were aiming for a flavor different from the traditional energy drink one. But honestly, it feels like they’ve achieved the classic energy drink taste and aroma.
Zero-Calorie Energy with Just the Right Drinkability
With zero calories and low carbs, it offers a refreshing classic flavor.
However, since it's zero-calorie, it might have been made a bit lighter, and as a result, it lacks a bit of depth. The sweetness is insufficient, which makes the fragrance overpower the taste to some extent. But the scent is strong, and of course, when chilled, the refreshing feeling increases.
Pancrase Energy's Ingredients
The can is clear, listing the ingredients for each can, which is helpful.
The caffeine content is 160mg, putting it among the top in the country. The arginine content is also high at 300mg, making it quite strong for an energy drink. It seems to have emerged as a top competitor in terms of awakening effects.
However, it doesn’t contain any herbal ingredients.
While the zero-calorie content is good, if the primary product lacks sugar, it’s likely to not help with blood sugar levels.
As the original Pancrase Energy, having zero calories and being sugar-free may cause some mixed opinions among enthusiasts. (Though I’m sure 99% of people don’t care about that part.)
About Pancrase Energy
It seems like they’re quite enthusiastic about selling it, with plans to sell it in izakayas or through OEM production orders.
For some reason, they’ve teamed up with izakayas and online games. Perhaps it’s difficult to use footage of Pancrase fighters? Or maybe as an official drink, that’s not even necessary.
Their goal is to create “energy that’s closely connected to everyday culture,” so it may not be in the same direction as brands like Red Bull, Monster, or Rockstar.
