REAL POWER
Review of REAL POWER, the energy drink developed in collaboration with Real Madrid for global distribution.
Currently, it seems this product is not officially the "Real Madrid official drink."

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.

Flavor of REAL POWER

When opening the can, a perfume-like, fabric softener-like scent immediately spreads. The fragrance is distinctive, with a twist on the classic scent. Personally, I'm not a fan of energy drinks that smell like they're not meant to be consumed (ヽ´ω`). However, it doesn't seem as intense as *Lifeguard X*.

REAL POWER
The color is a slightly brighter gold. The carbonation bubbles are beautiful. Before drinking, I was quite worried about the strong perfume-like scent.
When I actually tried it, the flavor turned out to be rich and tangy, with a honey-like sweetness that harmonizes with the sourness, giving it a refreshing apple-like quality. Some people may not be fond of it, but I was surprised by how delicious it was.

However, as I continued drinking, the scent combined with the sweetness and sourness, sometimes making the taste feel a bit uneven. The lingering scent gave me the feeling of drinking a sweet and sour perfume. This might be the reason why opinions are divided.
If the carbonation were stronger, it might be easier to continue drinking it with a fresher taste.

Personally, I wouldn't go as far as saying it's bad. It tastes fine at room temperature and was delicious when chilled. But the scent lingering after drinking does have a peculiar aftertaste.

Energy Ingredients of REAL POWER

The caffeine content is listed as zero, with the caffeine effect coming from the 50mg of guarana. Compared to other international products, this isn't a very high amount.
Additionally, there is a small amount of honey (50mg) and 300mg of arginine, which is a standard level.

REAL POWER
According to the official website, it's marketed as a premium energy drink. However, considering the phrase "crowned with Royal" in its branding, it might have been nice to see a richer composition. Since it’s a product developed with Real Madrid, it would have felt more fitting if it included ingredients like BCAA or L-carnitine to enhance the energy-boosting aspect.

Design of REAL POWER

REAL POWER
The blue can features the REAL POWER logo along with the Real Madrid logo, clearly reflecting the image of Real Madrid.

The side string design is distinctive. Overall, the design is easy to associate with both Real Madrid and soccer, which works well.

Currently, the can does not explicitly state that it's the official energy drink of Real Madrid, which makes it somewhat unclear whether it’s officially branded or simply developed in collaboration. It’s easy to assume the product is official, but the branding doesn't make this immediately clear.

Is it a premium energy drink? Feels a bit expensive...

Being marketed as a premium energy drink, I believe it costs around 270 yen per can, which feels a bit high. It’s unlikely to be something you'd buy regularly. If it had the brand power of Red Bull, it could afford to be priced higher, but considering its limited availability and recognition, many might only try it once.

Additionally, given that it’s developed in collaboration with Real Madrid, the “premium” aspect doesn’t come across strongly on the can. The official website mentions that it’s a premium energy drink, but without clear branding on the can, it leaves room for confusion when placed next to other energy drinks in stores. A more cohesive product image and stronger emphasis on its premium nature might make the price more justifiable.

REAL POWER
With blue pull tabs and the Real Madrid logo, there’s potential for further differentiation from other domestic products. If it can stand out visually, it may attract a broader audience beyond just Real Madrid fans.

Although there may be profitability concerns, I think it could have been priced lower (around 100 yen) to appeal to young soccer players and those involved in futsal. If it became a standard drink in the soccer industry, the collaboration with Real Madrid would become more meaningful. Imagine a cooler filled with REAL POWER cans on the sidelines—it could become a common sight! (๑´ڡ`๑)
