The pre-release reputation of Sparkling Yunker was extremely bad. It had been said to taste terrible, so I left it in the pack for almost half a year without touching it... But now, I’ll give it a try.

Flavor of Sparkling Yunker

When poured, the color is quite pale. The flavor also seems faint... and it turns out that's exactly the case. There’s no strong energy drink taste; it’s more like a light citrus flavor. If I had to choose between "delicious" or "bad," I'd say it leans more toward "bad." But as for whether I can drink it, yes, I can. As for whether I'd want to drink it again, that's hard to say (-_-;)

It seems like apple flavoring is used, but it's more of a very mild muscat or similar flavor. The fact that it’s zero calories is quite nice, but as for whether I’d keep buying it as a repeat customer, that seems unlikely. Recently, I’ve seen it placed next to Red Bull and Monster on the shelves at Lawson as a third option, but I wonder if there are any businessmen who buy it imagining it’s like the original Yunker. Anyway, it doesn’t have much of a satisfying drink experience.

The caffeine content feels relatively high, so if you’re looking for something to fight sleepiness or want that refreshing feeling, it might be worth stocking up when it's on sale.

Addendum: In May 2014, a new energy drink called Sparkling Yunker Energy was released. This one has a stronger energy kick. Definitely check out the new version!

Further Addendum: After drinking a lot of intense energy drinks every day, sometimes Sparkling Yunker actually feels refreshing and delicious. This is a surprising turn of events. I think if you mix it in once a week, it can be fun to enjoy the change in flavors (*´艸｀*)
