Survivor Protect
The second release from the low-priced energy drink series "Survivor" by Tominaga Trading has arrived.
This energy drink, which seems targeted at those who strain their eyes daily due to eye fatigue or declining vision, is called "Survivor Protect." Here is my review.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of Survivor Protect
The can design features a gradient from purple to wine red with white glitter floating, a color combination and design not found in other domestic energy drinks. It looks quite appealing.
When opened, a delicious blueberry scent that matches the can's color wafts out. This strong aroma definitely sets high expectations!
However, when poured into a glass, the liquid is a thick, rich orange! Σ(・∀・;)
I had expected a berry flavor, so I was surprised by this thick, syrupy orange color.
Upon tasting, there is a rich blueberry flavor accompanied by strong astringency and bitterness, with a fruity tang. To put it simply, it’s delicious!! (●´ω`●)
But this orange color doesn’t match the blueberry flavor at all. It would have been better if it had matched the can color. There’s a bit of a mismatch between sight and taste.
Energy Ingredients of Survivor Protect
Caffeine content is relatively low at 44mg. Arginine is 241mg, which is typical for an energy drink. The distinctive feature of Survivor Protect is the inclusion of 2mg of lutein. I assume the inclusion of cassis extract and bilberry extract is for the lutein.
As stated on the back of the can, this product is aimed at relieving eye fatigue. Lutein is known for its potential benefits for eye strain and related issues.
It’s a clear product designed for modern-day use, especially for those who spend long hours on computers or continue staring at smartphones. However, for comparison, popular domestic supplements often contain 10mg or more of lutein, so the 2mg in Survivor Protect can be considered as part of its product concept.
It's a shame it's only 185ml
This unique gradient can, with its vibrant and rich orange color, the interesting gap between the contents and the can, and its high satisfaction from the great taste, makes it a solid product overall. The flavor is so good that 185ml feels too small.
Survivor Original came in a 250ml can, so it’s unfortunate that this "Protect" version was downsized.
Perhaps the goal was to provide the functionality of lutein in a small, quick-to-drink form... But since it's an energy drink and not a nutritional supplement, I would have liked a larger size to better enjoy the taste and quench my thirst.
Additionally, if Survivor is going to become a series, it would have been better to have a set of cans in different colors with a consistent 250ml size, which would give a sense of unity and stronger branding. Such a missed opportunity. (´・ω・`)
