The BURNING Energy Drink
Released on September 20, 2021. The BURNING, an energy drink by DyDo, is the first functional food energy drink featuring tea catechins from the popular "Helsia" tea.
Due to the high content of tea catechins, this energy drink offers a unique tea-like bitterness, making it a one-of-a-kind product that we haven't seen before in the energy drink market.

In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
The BURNING Tasting Review
Upon opening, a strong citrus fruit scent mixed with the aroma of catechins fills the air. It’s surprisingly fruity!
Upon tasting, the strong acidity of dense orange fruit flavor hits first, followed by the powerful bitterness and astringency of the catechins. The lingering bitterness of the catechins may be a bit too much for those who don’t like it.
Unlike the typical "bad-tasting" image of most energy drinks, some may even feel a bit of an odd or off-putting flavor from the unique tea catechin taste.
How will younger people who aren’t used to the strong tea flavors of health drinks react to this? Well, I guess it’s more for those concerned with visceral fat, like middle-aged men.
Personally, I don’t mind the catechins, and The BURNING, with its astringency, pairs well with the strong citrus acidity, creating a fruity orange tea experience that I quite enjoy. It’s fruitiness without being artificial, despite being juice-free—truly impressive.
The BURNING Energy Ingredients
Contains 66mg of caffeine, 540mg of catechins, 4250mg of citric acid, 215mg of arginine, 2.3mg of valine, 4.1mg of leucine, and 2.0mg of isoleucine. The catechin content is quite high, and it seems to contain the same amount as a bottle of Helzia tea.
This may be why it's called "The BURNING"—to associate it with fat-burning, as catechins are known to aid in reducing visceral fat.
There are also trace amounts of BCAA, which gives the drink an "energetic" or "effective" vibe. I do wish it were sugar-free though.
By the way, just adding catechins won’t automatically reduce visceral fat. If you consume extra calories and don't burn them, they will accumulate as fat, so don't rely too heavily on such products.
The BURNING Design
The design features a combination of red, yellow, and silver with a fiery phoenix silhouette and the clear product name "The BURNING" along with "Reduces Visceral Fat."
Although designs with a lot of text can often look tacky, this one manages to have a nice balance and is cleanly organized. Without the text and imagery, the phoenix and product name could have seemed tacky, but the addition of all this information gives a stable and visually pleasing layout. The vertical layout also gives it a sharp impression.
I thought it would be interesting to see colorful flavor variations with different main colors, but it seems like it’s been discontinued after this single release.
A lot of people are searching for "The BURNING tastes bad," which means if it doesn’t win people over with its flavor, it’s going to be tough. Additionally, the 250ml can priced near ¥200 seems a bit hard to justify in today’s market where large sizes dominate.
