In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Refreshing, Tangy, Classic Flavor
Upon opening, a typical energy drink scent bursts out. The color of the contents also evokes the classic energy drink flavor. Let's take a sip.
The flavor is a classic one with a strong tang, with a faint chemical aroma and a clean taste thanks to the absence of lingering sweetness. It's very close to Red Bull.
It's a blend of Red Bull's sweet and sour deliciousness with the chemical notes of Rockstar Original, making for a balanced flavor.
It’s hard not to wonder, "What would an energy drink from Lamborghini taste like?" but the contents are a standard energy drink flavor found everywhere.
In a positive light, it's a reliable classic flavor; in a negative light, at 350 yen, you can find similar flavors in energy drinks priced at 100 yen from other brands. It’s a hard product to categorize.
It’s not the kind of drink you'd casually grab, but more of a novelty to try at a gathering.
By the way, a gold version of the Lamborghini energy drink was released in the U.S. in 2010. I did a brief taste comparison with the American version, so be sure to check that out too.
Tonino Lamborghini Energy Drink (Japanese Version) Energy Ingredients
Contains 125mg of Ginseng and Inositol. Some may expect more from the energy ingredients given the "Lamborghini energy drink" name, but the Japanese version of the Lamborghini energy drink is caffeine-free. It doesn't contain any other unique ingredients, making it feel less like a traditional energy drink.
Tonino Lamborghini Energy Drink (Japanese Version) Design
The design is simple with the black can and red Lamborghini logo. The brand name, Tonino Lamborghini, is featured both on the front and sides, similar to the version previously released overseas.
The tab is fully black, giving the can a nice unified look. The product is imported from Italy and features a Euro tab design.
The back of the can shows halal certification marks and other information, including English text and recycling symbols, suggesting that it might be intended for sale outside of Japan as well.
Although it was released in Japan in 2020, it was never fully sold out, and by the end, the price was slashed to 30 yen for clearance. 350 yen was a bit too much, especially considering it didn’t seem targeted at regular consumers.
As mentioned in the news about the Japanese release, another company nearly launched a Lamborghini energy drink in Japan in 2016, but that effort was halted. Even though it was short-lived, it’s surprising to see it finally released in Japan again.
