In 2001, while living in the United States, I encountered energy drinks through the dance scene and was deeply impressed. After returning to Japan, I found that energy drinks were considered novelty beverages, so I established a comprehensive website in 2013 to share the true appeal of energy drinks. As an energy drink enthusiast, I began drinking them seriously again, collecting over 7,000 varieties of energy drinks from various countries. I am also active as a critic and expert, receiving media interviews.
Flavor of Vitamin Power GO! SUPER BBB
The color of the drink is the same as the first release, Vitamin Power GO!, a glowing and murky fluorescent yellow. There is a slightly chemical-like aroma to it.
When you take a sip, it has a refreshing sweetness and a grapefruit-like chemical bitterness, almost identical in taste to the previous Vitamin Power GO! In fact, I can’t really tell the difference between this one and the previous version...
Vitamin Power GO! SUPER BBB lacks sourness, and the bitterness isn’t strong, making it a perfect choice for those who want to enjoy the mildly chemical taste of vitamin-based drinks or energy drinks.
Comparison of Vitamin Power GO! SUPER BBB and Vitamin Power GO!
Since I noticed there were hardly any differences in color or flavor from the previous release, I decided to compare them.
The base citrus bitter flavor is the same. If you drink them separately, it’s hard to tell they’re different. However, when drinking them alternately, Vitamin Power GO! SUPER BBB has a slightly stronger bitterness that lingers a bit more, while Vitamin Power GO! has a slightly fresher impression by a narrow margin.
Looking at the ingredients, Vitamin Power GO! SUPER BBB contains "Citrus Fiber (including orange)," which might be contributing to the mouthfeel here?
Both drinks have very subtle differences in both taste and ingredients, so you may not notice much when comparing them.
Energy Ingredients of Vitamin Power GO! SUPER BBB
There is no caffeine, but it contains a variety of vitamins. The vitamin content isn’t that high, but the drink contains "12 kinds of vitamins for one day," making it feel more like a vitamin drink than an energy drink.
Compared to the previous version, Vitamin Power GO! SUPER BBB has removed amino acids like arginine and BCAA, making it feel even more like a vitamin drink.
It also contains 30g of sugar per bottle, which is on the higher side, so that’s something to keep in mind. Ito En markets it as a "health-focused energy drink" through its nutritional claims, but consumers should remember that sugary beverages aren’t typically consumed for health benefits.
Design of Vitamin Power GO! SUPER BBB
The can features a mirror-silver finish with red and black tones, giving it a crisp and sleek impression. The large amount of English text on the front enhances the energy drink vibe compared to the previous design, and it looks great when you see it in stores.
The color scheme, font size, placement, and even the Japanese text and black band at the top come together perfectly.
On the back of the can, the necessary functional claims and precautionary statements for nutritional foods are listed, as required by law.
Oh, and this time the Ito En logo is in white and placed discreetly at the bottom of the can. It's so subtle you might miss it if you don't look closely.
Perhaps they wanted to avoid the product being seen as a gimmick just because it's from Ito En.
Personally, I don’t think it’s odd for a company unrelated to energy drinks to release one, but I suppose they wanted to avoid the label of being a novelty.
When you compare it to the previous design, the change is quite striking. This new design would look perfectly at home alongside other established energy drink brands in stores.
Vitamin Power GO! SUPER BBB Drops in Price After 4 Months
By mid-August 2022, I found Vitamin Power GO! SUPER BBB being sold at Jason’s for just 49 yen per bottle. It’s unusual for a product to drop in price so soon after release.Released in April, and already dropping in price.

Vitamin Power GO! SUPER BBB is one of those energy drinks you can find pretty much anywhere in convenience stores and supermarkets. As of August, it was still being sold at full price across Japan.
It’s kind of funny to see it being sold at Jason’s, but at 49 yen per bottle, it’s easy to pick up without hesitation!
